MITSUBISHI WORLD RALLY TEAM CONFIRMED FOR RALLY MASTERS INTERNATIONAL

Feddy Loix to drive Mitsubishi Carisma GT at Punchestown Rally Spectacular

The Mitsubishi World Rally Team are to make their first ever trip to Ireland later this month with the announcement by Mitsubishi Motors that Belgian Rally star Freddy Loix is to compete at Rally Masters International (July 28th). The second world championship driver in a week to be confirmed for the rally spectacular, which takes place at Punchestown Racecourse situated near Naas, the 30-year-old will drive his Mitsubishi Carisma GT on the event.

Former World Champion debuts new Punto Rally car at Punchetown

Miki Biasion, twice winner of the World Rally Championship and one of the most famous names in world rallying, has confirmed that he is coming to Ireland for the World Rally Masters event at Punchestown Racecourse on July 28. Biasion will be driving the new Fiat Punto Rally which he helped Fiat Auto Racing to develop and the event will mark the debut of the stunning looking car in this part of the world.

    Garry Jennings and Martin McGarrity pulled off the most unexpected of victories in a stunning climax to an eventful second day of the Rallye Charlemagne.

    The pairing only took the lead on the final stage of the event. Jennings had driven faultlessly throughout the event and his patience paid off when Champion, who had led most of the second day picked up a puncture on the unlucky Stage 13 dropping over four minutes.

    Gwyndaf Evans put on a dominant display on last Saturday's SEAT Lurgan ParkRally, steering his factory Cordoba WRC Evo 3 to a start to finish victory.
    The Welshman won the Time Trial as well, to boost his winnings to £5000. Gwyndaf commented afterwards - "One of those days when everything goes like clock work. Although it wasn't as easy as it may have appeared, the rain made it slippy and difficult"

    Subaru Ireland confirm Richard Burns entry for International Rally Masters

    Sports fans will get their first opportunity to see the Subaru World Rally Team in action on Irish soil next month with the announcement today (Monday) by Subaru Ireland that world championship star Richard Burns is to compete in the first ever International Rally Masters at Punchestown Racecourse on July 28th.

    2001 MAXSPORT MUNSTER AUTOCROSS

    Richard Percy driving his Ford engined special won the Munster and Killarney Autocross Championships round held Sunday last at Cornins pit Killarney. His second win in a row closed the gap to Gerard Lucey in the MaxSport Tyres Munster Autocross Championship.
    Watched by a very large crowd who saw Percy set the pace on the first of his timed runs. The Neagh man stopped on his second run with a broken driveshaft, but enough had been done to secure the win.

    The cancellation of the Ulster rally has resulted in the first four rounds of the 2001 Toshiba Computers Irish Tarmac Rally Championship being lost from the original intended programme of events.

    In view of this it has been decided with the agreement of Toshiba that this years Championship should now be cancelled.

    At a meeting held on Thursday 7 June 2001 The Northern Ireland Motor Club Ltd conceded that the continuing difficulties connected with Foot and Mouth Disease had now forced a decision to cancel the Stena Line Ulster Rally 2001 which was due to run on the first week end in September.

  • James Cribbin from Mullingar on his first outing in his newly acquired Mitubishi Lancer EVO V was the surprise winner of Cork MC's rallysprint @ Rosegreen Co. Tipperary. Co-driven by Paula Nooney, his time on the second run was enough to beat the local favourite Frank Meagher.
