Round 1 - 2001 Darby O'Gills Killarney Autocross Championship
Richard Percy driving his Ford engined special won the Munster and
Killarney Autocross Championships round held Sunday last at Cornins pit Killarney. His second win in a row closed the gap to Gerard Lucey in the MaxSport Tyres Munster Autocross Championship.
Watched by a very large crowd who saw Percy set the pace on the first of
his timed runs. The Neagh man stopped on his second run with a broken driveshaft, but enough had been done to secure the win.

From the record 60 entries, Gerard Lucey finished second and still leads the Munster championship, one of only a few drivers who improved their times on the second run. The event was also the first round of the Darby O'Gills Killarney championship and saw 43 of the drivers register for the championship.
Fastest saloon was the Kadett 1.3 of Tony Dineen, his time of 1.52 on his second run faster than all the 1600, 2l and 4 wheel drive cars. Dineen also took class 1 from Joe Shinnors with James Lehane's third place putting him into the class lead in the Munster Championship.
Despite breaking a drive shaft on the practice run and another on his second run Killarney man Kevin O'Donoghue took Class 2 from Jimmy Devane. JJ carroll another to complete only one run took class 3 followed by John Somers in his Mk II Escort rally car.
Class 4 saw Father and Son Joe and Greg Shinnors 1st and 3rd, with Cork man Mike Linehan in 2nd.
Despite a puncture on his last Run John Hickey took fourth in the class in his Subaru.
Next Round of the Munster Championship will be hosted by the Limerick Motor Club on July 8th, with a return to Killarney for 2 days of action on the Saturday and Sunday of the August Bank Holiday Weekend.
