Report, Results and Stage Times
Eugene Donnelly from Derry with Killarney co-driver Paul Nagle won the first Killarney Forestry Stages Rally on Sunday. Donnelly only needed to finish in the top 7 to clinch the National Forestry Championship but did it style by winning the event by 16 seconds from the Cork crew of Dermot Kelly & John Brennan in an Escort WRC. Third were John McCarthy & Francis Regan in another Escort WRC.

Doherty’s lead then disaster strikes

Local boys the Daniel and Michael Doherty were well ahead of the opposition, Niall Maguire, and in a commanding lead of over 10 after the first stage, during the first half of the Harvest Stages Rally, when disaster struck on the stage 3, forcing the Carndonagh crew out after a major off on the Mamore Gap stage.
The event was then lead by Maguire after this until the end of the event, adding to his dominant position this year.

Michael A Roche took a weekend double with wins in the two final rounds of the Dunlop Hillclimb Championship at Rockchapel, narrowly beating his namesake Michael B Roche on both days, with Darryl Ramsay third each time.

Autotest ace Eamonn Byrne of Delgany and his Dublin navigator Paul Phelan scored their second victory in succession, and their third altogether, in the Circuit of Ireland Retrospective Trial when the three day event finished in Sligo after a mixture of driving tests, navigation and regularity sections.

of Stage Rallies from 1.1.2003. These changes
are aimed at improving the lot of the novice or
junior competitor who frequently finds it
difficult, if not impossible to get an entry for an

With a sense of déjà vu after the last round nobody seemed to want to win, the final Co. Kerry autotest of 2002 started with the requested bright sunshine.
Don Giles couldn’t be expected to repeat the last-time victory having switched to the family Westfield practicing for next year, but still took a creditable RWD class win after some pylon flying action.

O'DONOVAN UPHOLDS LOCAL HONOUR

Donal O'Donovan and Pat Lordan in the An Post SDS Toyota Celica were the top
local crew in last weekend's Murphy Construction 2002 Cork '20' International
Rally, coming home in fourth place despite having to contend with a dramatic
fire late in the event.

Rallye Le Touquet 4th, 5th & 6th October 2002
Eleven British & Irish 206 crews made their way across the Channel for round 7 of the
2002 Peugeot 206 Super Cup - The Rallye le Touquet to contend the second to
last round of the season. It was thought that this may be the deciding round
of the championship between Irish contenders Shaun Gallagher and Garry
Jennings. However after a battle for first, Gallagher finished the rally
ahead of strong contender Jennings. Jennings now only has to finish inside
the top 5 on the last round of the season to take the 2002 206 Super Cup
title.

22 year old Shaun Gallagher from Letterkenny secured victory in the Peugeot 206 Super Cup when he drove perfectly over the entire Le Touquet Rally in France this weekend. To win the event Shaun had to battle with night stages, every changing weather conditions and the immense pressure placed on him by his opposition. However he did not let any of the pressures phase him and he lead the rally from start to finish to take his maiden victory in this notoriously competitive championship.

Round 5 - Murphy Construction Cork 20 Rally
Colm Murphy from Athea, Co. Limerick secured his
second consecutive victory of the highly competitive 2002 Ford Ireland
Focus Rally Championship, winning the penultimate round of the series,
the Murphy Construction Cork 20 International Rally.
The 2002 Ford Ireland Focus Rally Championship has developed into one of
the most exciting Motorsport classes ever seen on Irish shores. The two
day International Rally comprising of 140 tough competitive miles, was
marked by a series of punctures, accidents and mechanical problems that
conspired to keep changing the leaderboard throughout the two action
packed days.

Round 6 - Murphy Construction Cork 20 Rally
David Lyons from Clarina, Co. Limerick scored his best ever result to secure his first victory of the season on the sixth and penultimate round of the highly competitive 2002 Ford Ireland KA Rally Championship, at the Murphy Construction Cork "20" International Rally.
David in the Ryan and Roberts Crane Hire Ford KA decided that the Murphy Construction Cork 20 International Rally would have a "sting in the tail". Tactics were the order of the day and David played himself in gently, settling into a secure third position overall out of seven crews on the opening leg of the two day International Rally.

Eugene Donnelly/Paul Nagle retired with a seized gearbox on the second stage.
Francis Corrigan wins the co-driver section of the National Championship
The Overall Drivers section will be decided at the final round in Killarney

206 Cup - Gallagher Ups Title Challenge

Penultimate round - Le Touquet Rally, 4-6 October 02
The penultimate round of the 2002 Peugeot 206 Super
Cup takes place in France on the 4th, 5th and 6th of
October. The Championship is notorious for its
competitiveness and with only two rounds remaining
there is a three-way fight at the top of the table.
In the centre of that battle is Letterkenny driver
Shaun Gallagher competing in his Mullen Express
Transport and Pearse Road Tyres sponsored Peugeot 206.
The 22-year old is currently leading the championship
by nine points.

Rathcoole's Austin McHale will be back behind the wheel of his Toyota Ireland Corolla WRC for this weekend's (October 5/6) Murphy Construction Cork "20" International Rally, the penultimate round of the Toshiba Computers Irish Tarmac Championship.
McHale and regular co-driver, Brian Murphy (Newbridge), will be back in action for the first time since their third placing in the Punchestown World Rally Experience in July, having missed both the Manx International and the Ulster Rallies due to business commitments.
