On a bitterly cold and frosty night Carrick on Suir MC made it's Irish Championship debut. It was to be a night of firsts as Mervyn Dunn / Vincent Fagan (Micra) on their first night together stole a narrow victory from reigning Irish Champions "Bones" O'Connor / Paul Phelan (Corolla). Vincent was making yet another comeback from retirement. Also returning to the fray after a long absence was Rory Dooley.

Gerry Murphy was re-elected for his third year as President of Galway Motor Club at the club's annual general meeting in the Salthill Hotel, Galway this week. Brian Thornton was elected as vice-President and media officer. The honorary secretary is again Dennis Murphy, and Bobby Clinton was confirmed as honorary treasurer.

George Mackarel / Dene Sleator emerged victorious from one of the most difficult Drumlin's in recent years. So tricky was the navigation on Sheet 8 that Expert crews were in trouble as early as TP2.
