It is with great sadness and regret that the Killarney and District Motorclub have to announce, the cancellation of the postponed 2010 Kenmare Historic Stages Rally.
As a result of the inclement weather on Dec 5th 2010 the Killarney and District Motorclub had to postpone the running of the rally due to health and safety for spectators, officals and competitors.
An application was made to Motorsport Ireland’s Rallys Committiee for a new date to run the Historic rally on the 22nd January 2011 as there were no other rallying events due to take place on this date, this date was turned down by the Rallys Committiee, so the club looked for another date to reschedule the event, unfortunately due to the close proximity to other rallying events around the country the club felt it would not be possible to run the postponed event. Competitors who have entered the rally will receive a full refund from the Killarney and District Motorclub in the coming weeks.
Clerk of the course Kevin Flannery added
“I am very disappointed that the event was not given a new date as a lot of time and effort had been put into the organizing of the event. I feel so very sad for all the club members who put in so much hard work into getting the stages ready, the competitiors who were looking forward to competing at the event, and for it all to be stopped by the weather, that was out of the clubs control was unfortunate.
Every effort has been made by the Killarney and District Motorclub to secure a new date but this was all in vain, as a new date could not be found. I would like to say thank you to all of the sponsors, the Kenmare Chamber of Commerce, The Irish Daily Star Sunday Newspaper, Sapphire Signs and 2011 Barbados Historic Rally Carnival. I look forward to seeing you all down in Kenmare for the 2011 Historic stages rally on the 3rd and 4th of December 2011”.

In view of the deteriorating weather conditions in the South West, Killarney & District Motor Club, organisers of the Kenmare Historic Stages Rally, have been forced to postpone the event.
While the route remained clear of snow and ice through out the week this morning brought snow to the area and with sub zero temperatures forecast for the next two nights a decision to postpone was taken this morning.
In addition it had become clear that a significant number of competitors would find it impossible to make the journey to Kenmare, given the country-wide state of the roads.
The club intends to apply to Motorsport Ireland for an alternative date for the event either later in the month or early in 2011.
It is with regret that the Club has had to take this decision, the firs time in its 33 year history that it has had to cancel a rally, but the safety of competitors has to be the overriding factor in circumstances such as these.

A fresh spring like sunny day over Kenmare town this morning was not what Met Eirean was telling the rest of the country. A blanket of snow is covering Dublin but Kenmare was greeted by sun to keep away any frost and snow from the stages of the 2010 Kenmare Historic Stages Rally. With only three days left before the rally on Sunday the 5th, the Killarney Motor Club are driving the stages daily to keep the competitors informed on the condition of the roads.
Clerk of the Course Kevin Flannery said
“Stages are as good today as they are for the International Rally in May but a bit cold. I have a crew at the ready to go and salt the roads if they start to get a bit icy but with the weather forcast giving 6C for the weekend, I am very happy with the way things are progressing.
Kevin added that some people were concerned about if the rally was going to go ahead,
"it is a 100% yes the rally will go ahead, some people are going on heresay that it will, it wont, I ask anyone who wants to know anthing about the event to ring myself or any of the team in Killarney Motor club directly to get upto the minute details, and if anyone needs accomodation there is still some rooms available at Rally HQ”
Entries are stll being accepted up to Friday evening.
The Kenmare Historic Stages Rally is the last rally of a great 2010 season.
