The final details are currently being put to the specification of the Honda Cup Ireland 2009. Over the last six weeks the new organising committee have been very busy with all aspects of getting the series up and running and things are close to being complete.
We have had a fantastic response to our first press release, calling for interested competitors to register their interest. We have had over fifty come forward so far, with every contemporary Honda model represented – which is exactly what we wanted. The initial comments from many of those competitors have been very encouraging and have helped us to mould the format of the championship to suit the clubman competitor.
There have been many changes made to the outlined format that was initially specified in the first press release. Most of the changes are made to help the low budget competitor to compete without feeling that with a bit of extra funding their results could have been better. The principal change that everyone will be talking about is that we are now going to award prizes of tyres, fuel, other useful items to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in each class! And we expect the prize fund on each event in the series to be the largest in Irish rallying. In addition to this, the overall winner will receive a prize of a drive in the specially built Honda Cup Ireland Prize-Drive Car on an international rally that has yet to be confirmed. The full details of this prize are going to be kept secret until the launch of the championship which is expected to take place early next month.
Some confirmed details that we are able to release at this point are that:
- The entry will be broken down into two classes: “Production” (classes N2 and N3) and “Super-production” (classes A6, A7, R3, M11 and M13). Equal points awarded to each class. A very well structured bonus point system will reward “giant-killing” performances.
- We are now delighted to be working with the ALMC, Cork Motor Club, and Wexford Motor Club on making Honda Cup Ireland a huge success.
I would encourage any interested Honda driver, who has not yet done so, to register your interest in Honda Cup Ireland 2009 by sending you NAME, MODEL, CLASS, MOBILE NUMBER, EMAIL ADDRESS and HOME TOWN/COUNTY to our email address:

Final details are currently being put in place for the inaugural year of the Honda Cup Ireland rally championship. Set to kick off in 2009 the cup plans to run over 6 events throughout the year with the best 5 results to count. The championship has been setup to offer drivers a low cost, high value way to rally throughout the year with a chance to win proper prizes on every event.
So why should you do the Honda Cup?…..
1. Prizes for at least the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd drivers on each round
2. 6 events in total made up from 4 x 1 day events and 1 x 2 day event with a good geographical and calendar spread and 1 x 2 day foreign event later in the year. The foreign event will be packaged at an unbelievably discounted price to make it accessible to every competitor.
3. Control tyre to reduce cost
4. Control fuel to reduce cost (98RON Unleaded)
5. Control brake pad to reduce cost
6. Guaranteed entries into proper events
7. Rental packages available for one event or the whole championship at economic price.
8. Centralised spares van in service carrying all the bulky essentials.
9. Very low registration fee to cover basic administration and organisation
10. Proper championship website offering results service, news, photos updates, and classifieds.
The championship will run for the next three years - 2009, 2010, and 2011, and hopefully further - in an attempt to offer potential buyers of Honda rally cars some security knowing that they can buy and compete in the Honda Cup for the foreseeable future.
Details of the event dates, championship regulations, and the website will be released in the coming weeks. If you are interested in finding out more about possibly competing in the championship, please email the organisers at
