With four rounds of the seven completed, the series has a real sting in the tail as the remaining three rounds have more competitive mileage than all the previous rounds together.

Currently Oliver Stanley (Durrow) in the Perry Motors Ford Focus leads the series having scored on all rounds to date, the canny Laois man has always driven with the championship in mind and his strategy has paid off to date. Second placed Gerry Keyes (Limerick) in the P J Matthews/O’Dwyer Steel Focus, the 2002 Ford Ireland KA Rally Champion has improved consistently throughout the year and is now one of the men to beat, the fast flowing stages of Ulster will undoubtedly suit him. Third placed David Delaney (Cashel) in the Scotframe Focus despite some bad luck on the last two rounds is consistently on the pace and is looking for his first victory of the season. Fourth and fifth placed Colm Murphy (Athea) and John Foley (Midleton) have proven there speed but two non-finishes each has damaged their championship hopes.

“The Ulster Rally by nature is extremely fast with smooth flowing stages, it should prove to be another exciting test for all the crews. We are looking forward to another giant killing performance from the Ford Focus. Indeed Colm Murphy lead the National Rally there last year in his Focus” said Tom Collins, Championship director.
