Irish rally driver Shaun Gallagher began a new challenge this weekend when he took part in round 1 of the French Peugeot 206 Cup, the Rallye Lyon-Charbonnieres-Rhone. The rally was a sixteen-stage mountain rally based in Lyon.

Reigning Irish International Rally Champion Andrew Nesbitt will make his motor racing debut this Saturday (5th April) when he competes in the opening round of the exciting Fiat Punto Abarth Cup at Kirkistown. The winner of three back to back Irish Tarmac Rally Championship titles, the Armagh ace will drive the Blaupunkt backed 'Guest' car at the Co. Down circuit.

This weekend saw the second running of the Scalp hillclimb by Clare Motor Club. A dry and sunny morning awaited the competitors from every corner of Ireland. Last years winner Frank Byrnes was back to defend his crown. Local man John McNamara in the powerful Cougar was out to have a go at it though.

Irish rally driver, Shaun Gallagher continued his outstanding run of good form when he won the opening round of the British Peugeot 206 Super Cup, the Border Counties rally, this weekend. The rally was based in the town of Jedburgh with six stages totalling 45 miles run in the famous forest of Kielder.

IRISH RALLY TEAM TACKLE 3 CHAMPIONSHIPS

2002 was an outstanding year for Ireland's young rally star Shaun Gallagher. He finished 2nd in the Peugeot 206 Super Cup, won the Motorsport Ireland Billy Coleman Award and was presented with no less than five top awards by Peugeot Sport. 2003 is shaping up to be even better for this young driver. The Irish team will compete in no less than three top championships, the French Peugeot 206 Cup (Volant 206), the British Peugeot 206 Super Cup and the Norwegian National Championship.

Protec Promotions Ltd the organisers and promoters of the Ford KA & Focus Rally Championships have sold the assets of Protec Racing, (the car preparation and competition parts side of the business) to C-Sport, the Killaloe based Race and Rally car preparation business. C-Sport will now become the official parts suppliers to both the Ford KA and Focus Rally Championships.

REMINDER. ALMC Navigation Classes begin this Wednesday Night 26th. February at 8pm. in Motorsport Ireland, Dawson Street, Dublin 2. They continue each Wednesday night for the next 3 weeks. Lecturer will be, Championship navigator and club member, Ted Gaffney. Cost €40 to include maps, romer, and ALMC membership for 2003. ALMC announce their annual Navigation classes will take place again this year.Classes will be held in Motorsport Ireland/RIAC in Dawson Street on February 26th. March 5th and March 12th.
Each class will begin at 8pm. They will be hosted by Club Member and Championship Navigator Ted Gaffney. Topics to be covered include introduction to navigating, map reading and plotting, route plotting exercises, timing and penalties. Co. driving, entering rallies etc. Cost. €40.00 to include club membership for 2003.
