Brian Turner from Tipperary driving an Opel Engined special was the overall winner of the 2001 Killarney and District Motor Club Autocross weekend. Turner, the overall winner on the Saturday event finished in second place on the Sunday to the Suzuki engined special of Willie Kavanagh from Cloughjordan, Co. Tipperary.

Midland/Birr Autocross Challenge, Ballinahown, Athlone, Co. Westmeath,
21/22nd July 2001.
Entries are now closed for the event with a maximum entry received along
with a reserve list. There is a very strong entry with the strongest
challenges coming from the likes of Gordon Percy, Cathal Hogan, Ger Brennan,
Ian Byrne and Chris Behan plus Eoin Woods.

It was a case of another great win for the Longford/Monaghan Pairing of Packie Duffy and Harry Bleakney by clinching for the Third Time in a row the Mc Carrick Garages West Coast Navigation Championship. The ever successful duo also finished Overall Winners in the X Tract Engineering Border series and Third Overall in the Senator Engineering Munster Championship.

Former World Champion debuts new Punto Rally car at Punchetown
Miki Biasion, twice winner of the World Rally Championship and one of the most famous names in world rallying, has confirmed that he is coming to Ireland for the World Rally Masters event at Punchestown Racecourse on July 28. Biasion will be driving the new Fiat Punto Rally which he helped Fiat Auto Racing to develop and the event will mark the debut of the stunning looking car in this part of the world.

Gwyndaf Evans put on a dominant display on last Saturday's SEAT Lurgan
ParkRally, steering his factory Cordoba WRC Evo 3 to a start to finish
victory.
The Welshman won the Time Trial as well, to boost his winnings to £5000.
Gwyndaf commented afterwards - "One of those days when everything goes
like
clock work. Although it wasn't as easy as it may have appeared, the rain
made
it slippy and difficult"

The cancellation of the Ulster rally has resulted in the first four rounds of
the 2001 Toshiba Computers Irish Tarmac Rally Championship being lost from
the original intended programme of events.
In view of this it has been decided with the agreement of Toshiba that this
years Championship should now be cancelled.

Punchestown Rally Masters - 27 May 01

Liam Denning from Dublin took both an impressive Ford KA and overall Class one victory at the Punchestown Rallymasters.
Punchestown Racecourse experienced horsepower of a different kind with 80 rallycars in total competing on a 2.4 all tarmac rally stage. 14 Ford KA's competed on the event as a pre- season test.

In light of the continuing risks from Foot & Mouth disease to the Irish herd , it has been decided by the committee of Connacht Motor Club to cancel the 2001 Sligo Stages Rally which was scheduled to take place on Sunday July 8th.
