The Inishowen Gateway Harvest Stages Rally 2001 - (Sat) 13 Oct 01 - CANCELLED

In light of the concerns expressed recently by Mr Joe Walsh, Minister for Agriculture, regarding the possible re-emergence of the foot and mouth virus in Ireland, the Directors of Donegal Motor Club have decided to cancel the forthcoming “Inishowen Gateway Hotel Harvest Stages Rally” which was due to be held in the Inishowen Area on Saturday October 13th.

The Club once again recognises the invaluable co-operation of the farming community with the running of their events and feel that it would be inadvisable to run this event whilst there is the slightest risk that it could contribute to another outbreak of Foot and Mouth in Ireland.

A complete contrast of conditions greeted the remaining competitors on the second day of the Kumho Tyres Scottish Rally, the clear skies were welcomed after the previous days torrential rain. Rory Galligan led the TOTAL supported Super 106 Cup competitors away for a further 40.58 competitive stage miles with the opening stage run through Glengap Forest to the west of Dumfries.

Austin McHale/Bryan Murphy won out in an exciting days rallying at the new Limerick Race Course

Watched by a very large crowd under blue skies, McHale was fastest on the first of four timed runs of the 3.1 mile course.
McKinstry drew level on the second run, both crews tied on the third stage, with McHale putting in the best time of the day of 3.19 after McKinstry got a puncture on the last run. Second fastest time on the last stage secured third place for Frank Meagher.

James Foley was fastest 2 wheel drive on tie break after enjoying an all day battle with the Escort of Tom Randles/Diarmuid Lynch.

It is with regret that due to the on going foot and mouth situation, Killarney and District Motor Club have decided not to run the Hillclimb weekend, 13th & 14th of October and the Killarney Historic Stages Rally on the 2nd December. The unanimous decision was taken at the August monthly club meeting held on the 7th of August.
