Dublin’s Eddie Peterson driving a Mini Special claimed his sixth championship title last weekend at the Kerry Motor Club Autotest weekend at Tralee racecourse. The event which was sponsored by Lee Strand Co-operative and counting rounds of the Hewison Championship and also the Premier Auto Parts Munster Championship attracted 54 entries over the two days with Peterson battling with his championship rival Stephen Ferguson from Co Tyrone over 24 different test courses. Saturday saw the Dublin man take victory by 15 seconds from the similar Mini Special of Robin Lyons with Stephen Ferguson also in a mini special a further 3.2 seconds adrift in third place. Waterford’s Paddy Power (Mini Special) finished the day in 4th with Simon Ecklin (Caterham) rounding off the top 5.

The pressure was on Peterson on day 2 as he was unable to drive his own car after he broke a tooth off reverse gear on Saturday but fellow competitor Robin Lyons showed good sportsmanship and allowed the Dublin man to share his car for the final 12 tests. Stephen Ferguson was on top form on day 2 and after the final 12 tests the Tyrone man took victory 13.3 seconds ahead of his championship rival. The victory was not enough fro Ferguson as 2nd place finish for Peterson was enough for him to clinch his 6th Hewison title and also set a new record for consecutive championship title wins.

Some of the other crews who competed and won class awards included Chris Grimes (Mini),Robin Lyons (Mini), John Lyons (Starlet), Simon Ecklin (Caterham), Liam Cashman (Starlet), Davis Thompson (Nova), Shane McCarty (Starlet), Damien Doran (Mini), Martin Walsh (Starlet) and Olivia McCarty (Starlet).
