Carrick on Suir Motor Club Start new Season with Auto Test Weekend

Sideways action in Waterford City’s IDA Industrial Estate with kick start the Carrick-on-Suir Motor Club’s new season off next weekend with a two day Autotest. The first of six events organised by the club this year will be over supervised again this year by Eamon Murphy as Clerk of the Course. Headquarters for the event will be in the Keltech Engineering premises with sign on for competitors on Saturday morning at 11.00 hrs sharp and the action getting underway at 11.30 hrs. Day two on Sunday will start with sign on at 10.00 hrs sharp and the first test will begin at 10.30 hrs.

Next weekends event will form rounds 10 and 11 of the Hewison Autotest Campionship 1009/10. Round 8 and 9 fell foul of the weather on the 10th of January as the Midland Motor Club were required to cancel the event. We need to go back to late November in Carlow to recall the last time the autotest car took to the tarmac.

Saturday: Defending champion Eddie Peterson beat former double title holder J J Farrell by 3.1 seconds to win the opening day of Carlow CC’s Autotest weekend at Mondello Park, with challenger Steven Ferguson 8.5s behind after a mistake on one test cost him dearly. Robin Lyons was fourth despite a noisy reverse gear. Richard Pinkney headed the cross-channel visitors, taking a close second to Simon Echlin in the sports car class.

Sunday: In torrential rain at Tullow, Ferguson made amends for his Saturday error by finishing 2.8s ahead of Peterson, with Farrell another second down. Eamonn Byrne’s Mini saloon got in among the Specials, with Lyons sharing Sam Johnston’s car to a distant fifth position. Pinkney turned the tables on Echlin, taking ninth overall.
