Championship Sprint Will Rev Up at Enniskillen Airport

Posted: May 29, 2019 11:32 AM

Enniskillen Motor Club [EMC] host their counting round of the SW Adair ANICC Championship Sprint on the super-smooth tarmac of Enniskillen Airport this Saturday 1st June. The Montgomery Motorsport Erne Trophy Sprint had a marvellous entry of near-capacity 94 cars on the airfield back in September 2018 when Omagh’s Adrian Pollock pipped the glorious sounding Radical SR8 of Gerard O’ Connell in his very rapid Dallara F301 to clinch victory by mere seconds. This year Pollock returns to St Angelo to defend, not only his Erne Trophy title, but also his 2018 NI Championship crown as well. For Ni Championship standings see www.anicc.org.uk. Once again for 2019 the EMC Erne Trophy Team have garnered a bumper entry of some 76 + cars as the entry deadline approaches. Motorsport fans will be able to see action begin with the first of 2 Practice Runs start at 10.00am with the first of 3 Timed Runs roaring off the start line at 1pm. As ever toilet facilities and safe viewing areas with hot food a la Kitty’s Kitchen plus on-site free car parking with disabled access means all the spectator needs are catered for. Fans can expect to see some blistering pace from a myriad of speedsters on the super-smooth tarmac track encompassing two loops of the airfield covering just over two miles with three cars visible on the track at any one time.

For 2019 local interest will centre on veteran MG Midget driver Arthur Ovens from Brookeborough in the Historic Class, while Darran Flanagan and Derek Robinson sharing the LHD Toyota Twin Cam, Rodney Donaldson in his Mk II Escort, Fabian McAleer: Escort MkII BDG, George and Trevor Elliott in their respective MK II and MK I Escorts, William Graham in his Corsa and Andrew Bracken MkII Escort Duratec are all in the Rally Car classes. Another Sprint and Rally veteran Paul Flanagan will wheel out his beautiful newly-prepared Talbot Sunbeam with Barry Murphy also in a Sunbeam while Dungannon’s Ken Colbert appears in his Lotus-engined version. Other locals include Chris McCarthy, out this time in a Renault Megane 225 while Colin Kane hopes for better luck this year in his rebuilt Toyota Yaris and Dermot Brewster again shares the driving duties with Brian D’Arcy in their Astra GSI while Karl Johnston will pilot the rare Austin Midas. So plenty of varied machinery for the avid fan to see in tyre-screeching action this coming Saturday. For full entry details, regulations etc., see www.rallyscore.net. Clerk of the Course, Richard McFaul, would ask that spectators obey the marshals and have a safe, enjoyable motorsport day out.
