Press Release 3 - Imokilly Motorclub Mini Stages Media Launch

The media launch for the 2023 Imokilly Mini stages too place on Friday the 27th of June in attendance were the President of Motor Sport Ireland Aiden Harper, Mayor of the County of Cork, Frank O Flynn, Cllr Susan McCarthy and Cllr Anne Marie Ahern Midleton.

There was a great turn out of drivers, sponsors and motorsport enthusiasts to see a mouth-watering display of rally cars, after the photos were taken outside it was in to our Rally HQ for the weekend The Midleton Park Hotel.

Here our club chairman Pat Maguire welcomed everyone and the first speaker was newly elected Mayor of County Cork Frank O Flynn who said it was great to be invited to the rally launch and it was great to see a group of volunteers bringing such a big sporting event to East Cork, he said these type of events were great money spinners for the area and stressed we would have very few events in Ireland without sponsors so always do your best to support the sponsors of the event .

The next speaker was the President of Motor Sport Ireland Mr Aiden Harper , who said it was great to be in East Cork with the Imokilly Motor Club he said the cutting back on the amount of rallys like Imokilly now running every second year had made the rally’s more sustainable with most rallys having a full entry as there were less events in the calendar , he said Motorsport Ireland was always looking to the future and every club had its say in the future direction of the sport.

The event follows the format of 2 stages 3 times with service after 2 and 4 in Midleton and the finish back at Midleton, all the information times stage maps, etc will be available in the rally programme so please go and buy one and support the event they will be available a few days before the Rally .

Entries are flooding in and the top ten should be serious already in are Rob Duggan, Jonathan Pringle, Eddie Doherty , Chris o Callaghan, Declan Gallagher, David Condell and Richie Moore to name but some of the front runners , add in the local battle for quickest East Cork driver between Mark Dolphin, Allen Treacy, Cian Walsh and two club member sporting new R2 cars Anthony O Driscoll and Pa Mahoney.

Our Clerk of the Course Tony O Driscoll said great turn out tonight , there has been a lot of effort put in over the past 6 months to get this event up and running we are nearly there but I would appeal to every club member to make an effort to help out over the next few weeks to make sure the event runs at its full potential, the entries look good we seem to have quality and quantity so one last push to get it over the line. Tony said special thanks to our main sponsors Scariff Plank Hire (SPH) and Gk Quickfit Tyres and all our associate sponsors see ye all on the 23rd of July.

Plans are at an advanced stage now for the rally the stages are sorted the officials are in place and the sponsors are secured , the club is hugely indebted to the 2 main co-sponsors of the event , Scariff Plant Hire Limited (SPH) and GK Quickfit Tyres both well known in the East Cork area.

Scariff Plant Hire Limited (SPH) hires Excavators, Diggers, Vibrating Rollers, Dumpers, Bowsers, Hydraulic Breakers, Tippers, Screen & Crushers, Bulldozers etc to the Construction & Civil Engineering sectors . Owned by the O’ Riordan family who are no strangers to rallying, Daragh O‘Riordan has a great record in Irish Rallying and competed at the highest level he has won The Rally OF The Lakes, West Cork and is a 4 time winner of the Cork 20 International Rally.

GK Quick Fit Tyres Midleton is owned by Gary Kelly, Gary has been involved in Motorsport for years and was very quick in a Honda Civic a few years ago but with work and other commitments Gary now races Hot Rod at Tipperary Raceway.

Gary and the team at GK Quick Fit is your first stop for tyres, whether it’s a Car, SUV , AWD , 4x4 or VAN with a range of tyres to suit any pocket from hard wearing to ultra-performance they also do wheel alignment, computerised wheel balancing , fast puncture repair and alloy wheel repairs .

There is no more compact event in the country Scrutiny, Parc Ferme, and Service area all within a stone’s throw of the Rally HQ for the Weekend THE MIDLETON PARK HOTEL. This year the club have 2 new stages with a mixture of fast and technical roads to test man and machine to the limit. Three time winner Gary Kiernan will be back to defend his title who can take it from him.

“things are moving along nicely we had our Motor Sport Ireland safety inspection and things are looking good, there seems to be huge interest in the rally and all going well we should have a full entry, the club is always looking for new members to help run this event and help out our neighbouring clubs so if you would like to get involved contact any club member, entries are on line soon .

Imokilly Motor Club are delighted to announce preliminary details of the IMOKILLY MINI STAGES RALLY 2023.

After a rather long time out the rally is back, last run in 2019 the event suffered from the cancellation of Motorsport during the Pandemic and then smaller rally’s up and down the country were cut back from annual events to bi-annual events by our governing body as it was felt there were too many events in the rally calendar.

But for 2023 the Mini Stages Rally is back with a new Clerk of the Course in Tony O'Driscoll and new sponsors, the event will be co-sponsored by GK Quick Fit Tyres and Scariff Plant Hire, both well known in the Midleton area.

The event, will run to its usual format 2 stages run 3 times with Scrutiny ,Parc Ferme and Service all located in Market Green with Rally HQ across the road in the Midleton Park Hotel , factor in 90 stage kilometres and low road mileage that’s as compact as it gets.

Speaking as new Clerk Of The Course Tony O'Driscoll said” I only took on this job knowing I had a good team of workers around me I am delighted to have Philip Doherty on board as my deputy and a strong team of active club members in the background, we have a lot of work done there is plenty more to do but I am confident in the club to get the job done. We are once again proud to be a round of The IPS Southern 4 Rally Championship one of the best Regional Championships in the country.

The rally is offering a shakedown stage on the Saturday of the rally a 4Km blast to shake out the Cobwebs far a serious assault on the rally itself on Sunday 23-7-2023.

The event itself is a huge money spinner for the area with competitors and spectators staying in the area for the weekend.

The Imokilly Motor Club would like to acknowledge the help of the residents on the rally stages without your help the rally would not be possible.
