Wolverhampton & South Staffordshire Car Club, organisers of the WKD Trained Dogs Rally North Wales, regret to announce that the 2021 event, planned for 26th June will not go ahead due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
The organising committee of the popular Dolgellau based event have been closely monitoring the pandemic over recent weeks and the rally was in the advanced stages of preparation when the final decision was made.
Set to welcome a number of major rally championships to the event which uses the world-famous forests in the area, the organising team had worked hard to explore the avenues available within the current and pending restrictions in June when the event was due to be held.
Following the latest update from the Welsh Government, (12th March) and the continued restrictions on travel both to and from Wales, as well as future unknowns, it was felt at this current time that it would be impossible to execute an event as substantial as Rally North Wales, and therefore the organisers have had no choice but to cancel this year’s rally.
Eifion Jones, RNW Rally Manager, said: – “Due to the ongoing pandemic and uncertain situation around the country, the organising committee regrets to announce that the 2021 WKD Trained Dogs Rally North Wales will not go ahead.
“The entire organising team had been working tirelessly to offer another fantastic forestry event in the Infamous Dyfi complex, regarded by many of the leading World Championship contenders, as “Some of the very best stages in the world”. We were very excited to welcome a host of leading rally championships and competitors to the region in June.
“Sadly, we still cannot travel into Wales now or for the foreseeable future and it has simply not been possible for the team to access the Forestry to carry out route surveys which allow us to produce a route and then draw up the required documentation such as Road books and Safety Manuals. Taking into account the latest Welsh Government announcement on the restriction to travel continuing in some form or other for the next few weeks, we feel the time has come to make the difficult decision.
“We cannot hope to run such a large event as this without the support and goodwill of the local community: residents, businesses, authorities, emergency services and the general public. We feel it prudent for the health and wellbeing of everyone at this time, and for the continued good name and future local support of the event, that we had no choice, but to turn our attention to 2022. Organisers have pledged to return next year with a rally every bit as exciting as was planned for 2021.
We are committed to providing competitors, fans and the region’s economy with our now traditional compact event with a mid afternoon finish, allowing everyone to travel home at a reasonable time.”
“We propose to run on our traditional date of March 26th in 2022 (Provisional), using a similar format to what we have run previously. I`d like personally to thank our sponsor, Matt Wiggins, of WKD Trained Dogs for his ongoing support, as well as the various championships, Fuchs Lubricants Motorsport UK British Historic Rally Championship, Pirelli Motorsport UK Welsh Rally Championship, RACRMC Mixed/Rally 2 Championship, Crew25 Championship and ANWCC Forest Rally Championship, Our loyal competitors and our extensive team of volunteers. We look forward to welcoming everyone to Dolgellau in March 2022”.
