The Dougie Hughes Memorial Clare Stages Rally Rally which is organised by the Clare Motor Club and was scheduled to take place on September 13th next has been cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
At a recent meeting, the board of directors of the Clare Motor Club discussed and analysed in great detail every aspect of the 2020 event including the safety of residents on the stages, marshals, officials and especially the congregating of large groups of people and spectators in remote areas.. Following the discussions and with the health and safety of all the officials, marshalls and residents it was evident that the only reasonable course of action was to cancel the event.
The decision was even more difficult as the Clare club are celebrating 40 years this year.
The Clare Club would like to take this opportunity to thank our title sponsor Liam Cleary Autoworld, associate sponsors Emc Motors and Hotel Woodstock for their continued support. We would also like to thank the residents along the route of the rally, Clare County Council and the Gardai, with whom we engage on an annual basis.
We also want to express our appreciation to the competing crews that have supported our events over many years. Thanks also to ancillary sponsors, programme advertisers, marshals, officials and rally fans for their support.
Our thoughts are with those who has been affected in any way by the virus and we would like to extend a special thank you to those on the front line.
Yours in Motorsport
Dermot Kelleher
