Grampian Forest Rally 2020
Announcement 21 March 2020
The Grampian Forest Rally organising team have been assessing the difficulties faced by motorsport events as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic become greater. Although Motorsport UK have revoked issue of event permits, which also prohibits preparatory recconaisance, until ‘at least’ the end of April we must be under no illusion that the situation will stabilise within any predictable timescale. The situation has drastically changed in only a few days and our team have concluded that the only responsible decision is to announce the cancellation of the Grampian Forest Rally 2020, planned for Saturday 8 August 2020. The full effects of the virus and how it will affect us all are unknown but we must consider the fact that some of us will be affected by the illness and that our team will likely be reduced, along with all those who help on the day and not least of all, our competitors. We need a full contingent each. A significant unknown is the recovery period – both for those suffering the illness and suffering financially. Regardless of any subsequent restrictions imposed on events it is likely that by August there will still remain significant difficulties in resources and finances.
We are grateful to our sponsors who have supported our rally in previous years and appreciate that they also need to reserve their finances to weather the coming storm.
Ultimately, it would be irresponsible to promote an event which relies on, and can affect, medical resources.
We are all passionate about our sport of rallying and in cancelling this years event we hope to protect it in order to return fit and healthy in 2021. For then, as current recipients of the Coogie Urquhart Award for the best event in the Scottish Rally Championship, our aim will be to produce another winning result.
