Clonakilty Park Hotel West Cork Rally 2020 Press Release 3

Posted: February 8, 2020 12:14 PM

The West Cork Rally has a long-standing reputation for delivering a world class event that is affordable and enjoyable for all our competitors. Our rally is organised by competitors for competitors and we will always strive to deliver safety, value, and enjoyment for all our competitors, whether you run Car 1 or Car 160 – This is a core value of The West Cork Rally and indeed Cork Motor Club.

Recently we have all witnessed the introduction of additional regulation, complexity and cost to our sport. This has placed an additional cost burden on entries across all rally events. The organising team of the 2020 West Cork Rally are proud to announce that this additional cost will not be passed on to our competitors in 2020. After careful examination of our event budget and some difficult decisions we are pleased to announce that the 2020 entry fees for all categories will remain the same as those of 2019.

    Mainfield: €1095 – 14 stages – 220km stages
    Historic: €725 – 10 stages – 170km stages
Junior: €500 – All day Sunday – 6 stages – 110km stages – Note: If Driver & Navigator Marshal on Saturday they receive a further €100 discount.
Cork Motor Club have made the decision to absorb these additional costs and charges rather than simply passing them on to our valued competitors. We have made this decision as we believe that in times of uncertainty leadership is required. Many in the Sport are hopeful of a change of policy at National Level that would allow a reduction in costs for all events. Should this happen for our sport, in addition to keeping 2020 WCR entry fees the same as 2019, Cork Motor Club will also deliver the following to our competitors:

Should Motorsport Ireland revise their current charging structure and regulations between the date of issue of this press release and Friday March 13th, 2020, Cork Motor Club will refund the value of any additional savings achieved to each competitor who starts the 2020 West Cork Rally. The sport must be sustainable at all levels, including for the ordinary Clubman, and Cork Motor Club can and will deliver the cost saving on items we control – we would hope that the powers that be do the same.

Regulations are currently with Motorsport Ireland and the F.I.A. and will be available shortly.

In just under three months the West Cork countryside around the town of Clonakilty will reverberate with the sound of rally cars. The 42nd Clonakilty Park West Cork Rally which takes place on the 14th & 15th March 2020 will see the top talent in both Ireland and Britain come head to head. The event will be the second round of both the Irish Tarmac Rally Championship and the British Rally Championship as well as the opening round of the Southern 4 Rally Championship so a great battle in in store.

For 2020 Greg McCarthy has stepped aside as Clerk of the Course after five successful years and Steve Davis has taken over the reigns as Clerk. Steve has a huge amount of experience having been deputy to Greg for a number of years and has laid on a classic route totalling almost 240km over two days. There will be eight stages on the opening day with six on the second day, all to be held in daylight.

The Clonakilty Park Hotel (formerly the Quality Hotel) is once again the Rally Headquarters for the weekend. In keeping with recent years, service will be in a centralised location over the two days. There will be a historic and junior section, with the historic rally beginning on stage 5, and the junior rally taking in all of Sundays stages.
More information will be available in the coming weeks
