The FUCHS LUBRICANTS Motorsport UK British Historic Rally Championship will enjoy its furthest-reaching media package to date when the seven-event season starts on Rally North Wales (Saturday 30 March).
As well as an on-going TV package, the championship will make extensive use of social media channels with a particular focus on Facebook and YouTube.
Live event coverage on Facebook was a real hit in 2018 and drew almost one million page views for the championship in coverage produced by Matt Cotton and Bex Hinton from MCR Motorsport Media. The final tally for the BHRC alone was a hugely impressive 988,390.
During the coming season they will again catch up with crews at various points during the rally, subject to the availability of phone signal, and will bring all the immediate news, chat, gossip and stories from the rally.
The team at Special Stage will continue to film all the rallies and produce tailored edits for YouTube and social media, with each of the categories enjoying bespoke coverage. In 2018, the BHRC edits drew a Facebook audience of 48,500.
All edits will be published through the championship and Special Stage Facebook pages, giving a reach of over 60,000 followers. In addition, the championship will feature regularly on Special Stage Weekly, the TV programme available on Front Runner, Sky Channel 468 and Freesat Channel 250. Across all of its motor sport coverage, Special Stage has a spectacular audience on Social Media, with a total of 2.3 million views on Facebook and a further 250,000 views on YouTube during 2018.
Championship manager Colin Heppenstall said:
“I am delighted to confirm our media packages for 2019. We enjoyed very encouraging statistics in 2018 and I am sure that the reach of the BHRC will continue to grow this season. We are now achieving far greater exposure than in the era when niche TV was the only avenue available.”
As well as being the first of seven BHRC rounds, Rally North Wales is also the first round of BHRC2 supported by Sherwood Engines, which puts the emphasis on the Category 1 (pre-1968) and up to 1600cc cars in the championship, and the first round of the BHRC Forest Challenge, supported by Rally and Competition Equipment.

The dates for the 2019 FUCHS LUBRICANTS MSA British Historic Rally Championship have been unveiled, with a seven-event calendar covering both gravel and asphalt events.
The 2019 calendar features a return to the Ulster Rally as the major sail-away event of the season, with the event’s compact one-day format sure to be attractive to competitors seeking a top-level, closed-road challenge without taking too much time away from businesses and families.
Five top quality gravel events, covering Wales, Kielder and Yorkshire along with the Harry Flatters Rally on the asphalt roads of the Epynt ranges make up the nicely-spaced calendar.
Once again, the championship will include BHRC2, the division within the MSA British Historic Rally Championship for Category 1 (pre-1968) and 1600cc cars in the championship.
“The 2018 season has been a very positive time for historic rallying and the changes made to running order on gravel events have been a real boost,” said Championship Manager Colin Heppenstall. “We’ve had over 70 registered contenders out competing this season, with more than 20 crews scoring points in BHRC2.”
