Bulletin Number 1 - 2018 South East Stages Rally Championship
Dear competitor,
The committee of the Suirway Group South East Stages Rally Championship are disappointed to inform all competitors that the 2018 Carlow Car Club’s tarmac rally on the 20th of May 2018 will not be eligible for inclusion in this year’s Suirway Group South East Stages Rally Championship.
Carlow Car Club agreed to a late date change for their event to facilitate the running of the
Irish Motorsport Support Fund/Mondello 50 fundraiser and in doing so decided to downgrade their event to a mini stages event. Unfortunately, this format does not facilitate all groups in the South East Stages Rally Championship and after consultation with Carlow Car Club it was mutually agreed that we could not have the event as a counting round of the 2018 Championship.
We wish Carlow Car Club a successful event this year and look forward to having them back on board for 2019.
The Championship this year will now be a 6 round championship with a competitor’s best 5 rounds to count.
The two competitors who have won a free entry to the Carlow Rally will have it transferred to the next counting round being the Ravens Rock Rally on the 24th of June 2018.
Regards,
Karen O’Dowd
Championship Registrar

Carlow Car club is pleased to announce the 2018 Sheehy Motor Group Carlow Stages Rally also incorporating the famous O’ Brien Cement MKII challenge considered by Irish and international crews alike as the most competitive and sought-after trophy for any MkII men
This year’s event comes with a few changes mainly the date which due to a unforeseen change to the yearly motorsport Ireland calendar the rally will now run on the 20th of May one week later than normal because of this and being so close to the next national championship round it is not possible to take part in this championship therefore the Sheehy Motor Group Carlow Stages Rally will be running a Mini Stages format this year and will again be back in the Seven Oaks Hotel for the headquarters which is centrally located in Carlow town .
This year’s event will run a 2 by 3 format which totals approx 90km of very technical stages that will test car and driver alike and will be easily recced in a few short hours due to the close nature of the loop of stages , On Saturday scrutiny will take place in Sheehy Motor Volkswagen green lane Carlow
Clerk of the Course Brendan Harpur and his team have been working hard on preparations for this year’s event and would like to welcome the Sheehy Motor Group on board as a rally sponsor and O’Brien Cement back as the title sponsor of the MkII Challenge which is one of the most sought after trophies in Irish rallying , It is great to see sponsors like these show their continued support to Irish motorsport as we are only too aware that events could not be run without Continued Support , The event has attracted crews from all over Ireland and overseas to battle it out for the MKII trophies which as per previous years also carries a free entry for the winner .
Previous winners include Daniel McKenna, Wesley Patterson, Frank Kelly and last year’s winner local man David Condell to name but a few ,The rally also plays host to round 3 of the Suirway South East Stages Championship being the first tarmac event of the championship and also for the first time hosting round 2 of the Midlands East rally championship .
The Sheehy Motor Group Carlow Stages Launch will be held on Saturday the 14th of April in the Seven Oaks Hotel in Carlow. On the night there will be special guest speakers, rally cars on display, finger food and there will also be a raffle for a free entry to this year’s event along with other prizes also.
This year’s event will be incorporating a part payment option for details on this please feel free to contact our event secretary on 086-8403017 / +353 86-8403017 between the hours of 19.00 & 21.00. Up to date info on this year’s event can be found on CarlowCarClub.ie or the Carlow Car Club facebook page regs will be available shortly on these and also evo on line entry.
We hope to see you all in Carlow on the 20th of May for what’s gearing up to be a great rally
Also if you’re looking at doing a few events this year keep your eyes peeled for some very exciting news that will change the way you go rallying with a great prize on offer that will change your rallying for 2019 in a massive way more news soon
