"The Cork Motor Club will be dedicating our next club meeting, 09 May 2017, to hearing our CMC Competitors views, ideas and suggestions in advance of the upcoming Motorsport Ireland Competitors meeting which is to be held in Athlone in two weeks’ time. The venue for this special CMC meeting will be the Commons Inn, Cork at 8:30pm sharp.
As most of you are probably aware, MI has requested a meeting with all competitors across all disciplines, scheduled for Tuesday May 23rd in Athlone. From the information that the club has received to date, the President of Motorsport Ireland, Martin McKenna, wishes to share information with regard to the current insurance situation and to listen to competitors views/suggestions on how to progress forward. Given the current situation with regard to Rally insurance levies, it is entirely reasonable to assume that a significant portion of this meeting may be given over to hearing views on the way forward for Irish Rallying.
The Cork Motor Club is extremely conscious that due to the location, date and time of this meeting it may not be possible for all competitors who wish to attend the meeting to do so. As a result CMC would like to offer all our competitors who cannot attend the Athlone meeting a chance to air their views, share their ideas and have them conveyed to the Athlone meeting by the CMC representatives who will be in attendance.
I would ask each and every one of you to please make an effort to attend next Tuesday’s meeting at The Commons Inn. Our sport is in quiet a precarious position at the moment given the fall off in entry levels on quiet a number of the Rally events to date this year. The decline in entries is largely due to core clubmen competitors now being able to afford to compete in less and less events due to the costs involved. CMC has always prided itself on being a strong voice for the core clubman competitor. I ask you to share your views and ideas next Tuesday night with your club so it can continue to be a strong voice for you."
Yours in Motorsport
Paul Casey
Club Chairman
