Easter 2017
Posted: November 29, 2017 9:10 AM
Following their ‘Déjà vu’ Killarney event last Easter, Dr. Beatty Crawford and Alan Tyndall have handed over a cheque for €5,000 to the Irish Cancer Society. The rally re-union recreated the glory days of Group B rallying in the 1980s by bringing together an immensely valuable collection of cars and some of the internationally renowne drivers who tamed those powerful machines.
Over seventy crews attended the historic gathering and mingled with legends such as Stig Blomqvist, the 1984 World Rally Champion, frequent victors in French and British rallies Bernard Beguin and Jimmy McRae, together with Saeed Al-Hajri the many times Middle East Rally Champion and Billy Coleman, the Irish rallying folk hero.
“We would like to thank all those who enjoyed our event last Easter and particularly the famous visiting drivers who gave their time free of charge to our charity event. In addition to our donation of €5,000 to the Irish Cancer Society, we also sent €500 to Billy Monger, the teenager who tragically lost both legs following a horrific accident in a F4 race at Donnington Park last April” said Beatty and Alan.
Since it’s inception in 2016, Déjà vu Motorsport has raised over €20,000 for cancer related charities throughout Ireland and it will be supporting McMillan Cancer Support on Titanic Ulster Déjà vu in the coming year.

Billy Coleman the three times Circuit of Ireland Rally winner will be reunited with a Rothmans 911 during Deja vu
Killarney this Easter. Now owned and beautifully restored by John Mulholland, the County Antrim motor trader,
the Porsche was a genuine Prodrive 911 similar to the car that Billy drove for the Dave Richards run team in the
1985 season.
Billy's first Circuit win was in 1975 in an Escort RS1600. He repeated the win a year later in an RS1800 but it was
another eight years before Billy, this time at the wheel of an Opel Manta 400 and with Ronan Morgan as his
co-driver sprayed the champagne again at the finish of the five-day marathon. Ronan will again accompany Billy
in two weeks times.

Denis Biggerstaff, one of Ireland's greatest motorsport all-rounders is bringing a Metro 6R4 to Deja vu Killarney to join the growing ranks of Group B and other motoring exotica that will be parading through the Kerry stages.
Denis has conquered an amazing amount of motorsport disciplines. Rallycross, where he has been a multiple British and Irish Champion. Hill climbing and Sprinting where he has broken many records and Rallying on tarmac and loose surfaces where Denis has been at the top of the time sheets for a generation.
The sideboard in his Kinallan home bulges with trophies and thankfully he has kept at least two examples of the glorious sounding six-cylinder Metros that have brought him so much success in Rallying and Rallycross.
Late entries are being accepted until the end of March so there is still time to register your cherished wheels and to join the multiple champions who will be enjoying the Sunday Run and the Gala Dinner at the Malton Hotel on Easter Sunday.

His Metro 6R4 is the ex- Tony Davies 400bhp. car although he will not need that this Easter when he joins the other sixty plus registered Deja vu weekenders.

STIG BLOMQVIST (World Rally Champion), BERNARD BEGUIN (Multiple French Rally Champion), JIMMY McRAE (Multiple British Rally Champion), SAEED AL-HAJRI (Multiple Middle East Rally Champion) and BILLY COLEMAN (British and Irish Rally Champions) will be guests at DEJA VU KILLARNEY this Easter, when the event relives the golden Group B rallying era of the 1980s on the 15 & 16 April.
THE REAL STIG
'The real thing', as they say in the Coca Cola ads, will be in Killarney this Easter! Not the anonymous white suited and helmeted gentleman made famous by the Top Gear series, but the 1984 World Rally Champion from Sweden.
Stig heads a stellar line up of international rallying stars who will be returning to Ireland to help us recall the brutal Group B rallying days in the 1980s when power ruled.
The Swedish ace drove for Audi Quattro, one of the most famous Group B factory teams in that short lived but unforgettable period. He beat his team mate Hannu Mikkola to the world crown in one of the all conquering A2 Quattros. Stig brought one of those mean machines to Ireland in 1983 to contest the Circuit of Ireland and Ulster International rallies. His Circuit ended in retirement but his Ulster win helped him secure the British Rally Championship that year.
RIDE WITH THE REAL STIG
The event will be raising money for its designated charity, The Irish Cancer Society, by auctioning a passenger ride on the Sunday Run over the famous Kerry stages with the former World Champion. Stages such as Cods Head, Molls Gap and the Healy Pass, which are forever carved in the annals of Irish rallying history.
THE ROTHMANS RALLY TEAM
Another of the highlights this Easter will be the recreation of the Rothmans Rally Team. Using MK II Escorts, Porsche 911's, Opel Asconas and Mantas, BMW M3s and Metro 6R4s, the team had many successes on the Irish stages in the Group B period. Now some of their star drivers, co-drivers, and team personnel are returning for the Killarney celebrations.
BERNARD BEGUIN
Bernard, the five times French Rally Champion, drove the teams Porsche 911 RS in the 1985 Circuit of Ireland Rally and finished fourth. This was Bernard's only Irish appearance but he had many successes in the Rothmans Porsches and he was also famous for winning the WRC qualifying Tour De Course Rally in one of the rare 430 horsepower BMW M1 Supercars.
SAEED AL-HAJRI
Saeed who won the Middle East Rally Championship in 1984 & '85 driving Rothmans Porsches, swapped the desert sands for the Galway ice in 1986. There he skilfully glided his 911 RS to second place. His trip to the Circuit of Ireland that year was spectacular when his high speed spotlight shedding spin was caught on his in-car camera, but less successful. However, his return to the Cork 20 Rally in 1989 gave the Qatari driver an outright Tarmac Championship qualifying win in a David Sutton run Ford Sierra Cosworth.
JIMMY McRAE
As well as the Scottish driver's five British Rally Championship wins, his Irish achievements are also legendry - seven Circuit of Ireland victories, and a Tarmac Rally Championship. Jimmy was in the Rothmans Team on two of those Circuit wins (1982 & 1983 ? Opel Asconas), and he won the Ulster Rally in their Metro 6R4 in 1986.
BILLY COLEMAN
Billy and co-driver Ronan Morgan will also attend Deja vu Killarney. They drove the Prodrive Rothmans Porsches, BMW M3s and Metro 6R4s. Billy won the British Rally Championship in 1974 and the Circuit of Ireland three times in 1975, 1976,and 1984. He was 4th overall in the 1985 World Championship Rally Tour De Corse.
Billy was also Irish Tarmac Champion in 1984 and finished 3rd in The European Rally Championship in 1979. He has won numerous Irish rallies over the years including the Cork 20, Donegal International, Galway International and Killarney Rally of the Lakes
Enthusiasts are invited to register for Deja vu Killarney in any of their cherished cars. They will drive the wonderful Kerry stages on a non-competitive run on the Sunday Run and mingle with the Group B aces at the Gala Dinner that evening.

If you are in the Lisburn area at 11.00am on Wednesday 22nd February we would be delighted if you could drop by The Glasshouse Cafe in Lisburn Square for a coffee and bun, where we will have a display of Rothmans Rally Cars and be making an announcement about the big rally personalities that will be attending our second Deja Vu Rally Revival in Killarney this Easter.

Saeed Al Hajri, the Qatar driver who has clocked up 18 international wins, will return to Ireland as a guest of the Daja vu Killarney organisers this Easter. The double Middle Eastern Rally Champion came to Ireland on three occasions in the 1980s and made an impression on all of them.
"We are recreating the famous Rothmans Rally Team as a central feature in our Group B Rallycar themed event and Saeed is the second former Rothmans driver who has agreed to join us on the 15-16 April." Enthused Dr. Beatty Crawford and Plum Tyndall. The dashing Arab brought heat into a very chilly West of Ireland back in 1986 when he slid his Porsche SCRS into second place on an artic Galway International Rally. This extraordinary result was achieved by 'The King of the Dunes' who had hardly even seen snow let alone driven in it before that February!
Al Hajri returned that Easter to re-join his teammate Billy Coleman in the Rothmans Porsche Team on The Circuit of Ireland Rally. His second visit was also sensational but for all the wrong reasons. In the pioneering days of on-board cameras Saeed clipped a bank on the opening day. The Porsche's spotlight flew into the middle of the road and as the 911 spun through 360 degrees before resuming in its original direction it ran over the large light. The incident was perfectly recorded on the car's bumper camera and it remains a much viewed clip on YouTube to this day.
Saeed's third visit was with the Rothmans Ford Team in a David Sutton run Sierra Cosworth in 1989. Frank Meagher's Mk II Escort gave the turbo car a memorable run for its money on the Cork 20 Rally before succumbing to an engine failure, and giving the visitor his one and only Irish Tarmac win.

Jimmy McRae, the record breaking seven times winner of the Circuit of Ireland International Rally will be one of the superstars in Killarney this Easter. Jimmy was also highly successful in the British Rally Championship, winning the title a record breaking five times in 1981, 1982, 1984, 1987 and 1988. In the European Rally Championship he was runner-up in 1982.
Throughout his career, McRae drove for a number of different teams, reaching a pinnacle during his spell in the Rothmans Rally Team, driving an Opel Manta 400. During his time at Rothmans, his team mates were Ari Vatanen, Walter Rohrl and Henri Toivonen. He then progressed to the venerable MG Metro 6R4.

With 'Brexit' having a derogatory effect on the strength of sterling and Easter being later in the calendar this
year, accommodation in Killarney has become significantly more expensive. We have therefore renegotiated certain
costs to make Dej? vu Killarney, 2017 a more attractive financial proposition.
REGISTRATION: Reduced to Eur 225.00
The initial registration fee of Eur 250.00 covered a car with as many occupants as you wished. We have now reduced this to
Eur 225.00. Please note that up to two occupants will receive the welcome pack. Additional passengers will be able to
purchase Route Books, Rally Plates and souvenir gifts.
BANQUETS: Reduced by 25% to Eur 75.00 per person.
Even though there will be no reduction in the quality of our Saturday and Sunday night functions at The Malton Hotel, which
include three-course dinners and entertainment, we have been able to reduce the cost by a quarter. Dinners will now cost
Eur 75.00 per person per dinner.
NOTE: Those who have already registered and paid for dinners will be reimbursed to avail of these reductions.
HOTELS: Since Easter is so late this year, Killarney will be extremely busy and hotel rooms will be at a premium.
Although The Malton Hotel will be our official base, there are numerous nearby hotels including the excellent Killarney
Royal, sister of The Malton. We advise you to book your room as soon as possible.

Dr. Beatty Crawford and Plum Tyndall have recently returned from the Kingdoms of Cork and Kerry having completed plans for a 50% new route for their Easter event.
"Our aim in choosing the route for Deja vu Killarney 2017 is to enable beautiful cars to travel over beautiful roads at speeds that will enable our Deja vuers time to take in the magnificent panoramic views on The Wild Atlantic Way and the Kerry Mountains. It will also give them the chance to appreciate the great Special Stages that have been used by many of the world's greatest drivers." Said the Hillsborough natives following their return.
Some of the classic stages remain on the 120 mile Sunday Run route. Moll's Gap for example but this time it will be experienced in both directions. The priceless parade will be going south on the Tim Healy Pass this year then due west to the jewel in the 2017 route ? Cods Head, which undulates past the shores of one of the most westerly parts of The Wild Atlantic Way. mini
The Ardgroom stage will provide more spectacular seascapes as the cavalcade heads east along the shores of the Kenmare Estuary and it will link them to the Kilmakillogue Stage which is back on the Deja vu maps this year by popular request.
It's popularity boosted by the presence of Teddy O'Sullivan's pub where fresh mussels that have travelled literally across the road from Kilmakillogue Harbour and live music will be on the menu on Easter Sunday afternoon.
The travellers will finish the day by descending back into Killarney over one of the most renowned stages in rallying history, enjoying their run in the opposite direction to their morning ascent past Molls Gap and Ladies View.
PASSPORT CONTROL
To further enliven the fun Deja vu Passports will be issued to every registered car and those that successful record the right Passport Photographs along the way will receive proper Wild Atlantic Way Passports.
These Tourism Ireland prizes will enable the Deja vu entrants to plan further trips up the western seaboard and to qualify for attractive gifts and incentives.image007-1

Following the success of Circuit Deja vu in 2016, Dr. Beatty Crawford and Plum Tyndall are bringing their great rally reunion event back to Killarney this Easter, but with a twist as this time they are - Firing up the Group B Memories.
It is hard to comprehend that twenty-five years have passed since, what many would consider to have been the halcyon days of rallying. The days when the monster cars of the outlandish Group B era literally lit up the stages. The supercars swept into Ireland in the late eighties to take part in events like the Circuit of Ireland which used east coast territory at that time; the Ulster International Rally on the northern stages, the Galway International Rally in the west and the fabulous Kerry stages were used on the Killarney Rally of the Lakes.
With them came an unprecedented level of sponsorship and promotion projecting rallying into every community and household. The superstars came with the supercars, Bloomqvist, Mikkola, Mouton, Toivonen, Vatanen, Rohl, and our locals like Fisher, Cullen and MacHale got the chance to compete against the very best in the world on home soil.
"We will be celebrating those glory years with some of the personalities that were involved. Drivers, co-drivers, organisers, team managers, and TV personalities. We may be bringing the emphasis forward a generation but the concept of Deja vu Killarney remains the same. Everyone who wishes to be reunited with old rallying friends and to run their cherished wheels, (from any era) over the classic Kerry stages will be welcome in Killarney next Easter." Said Plum & Beatty who have many surprises yet to be announced.
When the FIA introduced Group B in 1982 the could not have anticipated the explosion of design freedom that they had released. Group B gave birth to such exotic machines as the Audi Quattro S1 and S2 Sport Quattro S1. Ford's RS200, and the Ferrari 308.Lancia were major players with their Rally 037 and Delta S4. Opel kept to two-wheel-drive but their Ascona 400 and Manta 400s got results. Nissan had their bulky 240RS, Renault their 5 Maxi Turbo, Porsche a derivative of the 911 the SC RS, and Peugeot developed their highly successful 205 T16. British Leyland were late with their Metro 6R4 which was still being developed when Group B was cancelled in 1986.
The Deja vu organisers will seed the Group B entries and their replicas at the head of the parade on the Sunday Run where they will join the other exotic machines on the non-competitive tour of the great stages.

Following the outstanding success of Circuit Deja Vu in 2016, Deja vu Motorsport are returning to Killarney next Easter and bring their great rallying reunion event forward a generation to 'Fire up the Group B Memories'.
"With no Circuit of Ireland International Rally in 2017 we feel that Killarney D?ja Vu will fill a void in the Irish motorsporting calendar in Easter 2017."
Said Dr. Beatty Crawford and Plum Tyndall.
The format will be much as in 2016:

Deja Vu Motorsport is pleased to announce that its designated charity for 2017 will be the Irish Cancer Society.
In 2016, Deja Vu donated Eur 10,000.00 to Cancer Focus Northern Ireland and Marie Curie.
Beatty is a retired radiologist and, during 50 years in practice, he diagnosed thousands of cancer cases. His mother
survived breast cancer, only to die of pancreatic cancer, so he has very personal reasons to support cancer research.
Allan (Plum) is a cancer survivor of twenty years, one of the few to escape the wrath of oesophageal cancer, so he too
has a very personal reason to support cancer research,
There have been major advances in cancer treatment. Some types, such as certain forms of leukaemia, testicular cancer
and thyroid cancer are now totally curable. However, there has very little advance in the treatment of others such as
pancreatic, lung and brain cancer, so it is vital that research to find a cure continues unabated and this requires money -
and lots of it.
Full details of Deja Vu Killarney, 2017 will be published soon.
