The media launch of The Craft Fitted Furniture & Joinery Jim Walsh Cork Forest Rally proved as usual to be one of the great social nights of the year for the Cork Motor Club.
The launch took place on Thursday August 6th at The Roundabout INN Mallow, there was a selection of cars and drivers at the event including last years winner Owen Murphy.
Also on display were two fine examples of the legendary MK2 Escort Rally car owned by CMC members, Paul Fitzgerald and Michael O'Sullivan.
After the promotional photos were taken outside it was in for food and lots of talk about the rally.
Clerk of the Course for the event Brian C O Connell said that the very enthusiastic team that put the event together this year were pulling out all the stops to make this event live up to its reputation as the competitors favorite forest rally in Ireland.
Brian thanked his team for the huge amount of work that has been put in so far and in particular his deputy Clerk of the Course Brendan Fahy and his wife Edel, Assistant Clerk of the Course, they really have put a lot of time and effort into this event, there is huge interest in the event already and crews from all parts of Ireland and the UK have entered the rally for the 4th round of the Valvoline Forest Rally Championship. Brian also thanked his sponsors Paul O Connor MD of The Crafted Fitted Furniture and Joinery Company the title sponsor and our associate sponsors, The Roundabout INN Mallow, Mallow Development Partnership, Mallow Chamber of Commerce, from which Maura Hunter said that the Chamber were delighted to be associated with the rally and she was pleased that it brought additional business to Mallow and it?s environs.
Paul O Connor MD of The Crafted Fitted Furniture and Joinery Company said "We are delighted to be associated with this event he thanked the committee for their hard work and wished everyone a safe and enjoyable rally".
Sunday, August 23th is the date to remember all the regulars from the championship are going to be there and the EARS.ie MK2 Master is expected to bring a few surprises to the forests of north Cork so watch this space.

The Stages have been picked the time schedule is done and most of what?s happening for the Crafted Fitted Furniture & Joinery Jim Walsh Cork Forest Rally has been planned out .The Fourth Round of the Valvoline Forest Rally Championship, usually the competitor?s favourite round of the championship, once again sees the Cork Motor Club stage their rally in the Mallow area. Rally HQ for the Weekend is The Roundabout Inn, Mallow.
The rally uses its traditional format of 4 stages totalling 55KM of good quality forest tracks all picked by our Clerk Of The Course Brian O Connell and his team. Entries even at this early stage are starting to come in and the club is delighted to say it has received over 20 entries already, included in the list is last year?s winner Owen Murphy in the Hankook Mitsubishi Evo 9, also in the list of entries is a former winner of the Mk2 ?Master of the Woods? award Escort legend Frank Kelly, this prestigious award should bring a host of Escorts to challenge Frank.
The Press launch for the Craft Fitted Furniture & Joinery Jim Walsh Cork Forest Rally will take place at Rally H/Q, The Roundabout Inn at 7.30 for 8 on Thursday the 6th of August. On the night there is a chance to meet the team that are putting this event together and see a few rally cars on display chat with some competitors and members of Cork Motor Club.

Plans for the fourth round of the Valvoline Forest Rally Championship are at an advanced stage, the competitor?s favourite rally, The Jim Walsh Cork Forest Rally is renowned for its great stages which will no doubt test man and machine to the limit on the smooth fast forest trails of Co Cork.
This year there is a new Clerk Of The Course in place Brian C O?Connell , Brian has a long history as an organiser in motorsport and ran the West Cork Rally between 2001 and 2008. Brian and his team have worked hard on the event and are able to offer 60 KM of quality flowing stages both in the Ballyhoura and Killavullen areas - 4 stages run twice interspersed with service after every 2 stages. The rally will be based in Mallow once again with Rally H/Q being the Roundabout Inn, Mallow, in fact, Parc Ferme, Service and Scrutiny will all be based in and around the town.
The Cork Motor Club, organisers and promoters of the rally would like to thank DJD for sponsoring the rally for the last 2 years.
This year Brian is pleased to announce that a new sponsor, Paul O?Connor MD of The Crafted Fitted Furniture and Joinery Company, Munster?s leading Kitchen and Joinery Manufacturers, has come on board as title sponsors.

Paul commented that he is very interested in motorsport, is a big follower of rallying and has competed in grass racing, until his business grew to the point that he had to stop.
