James Lucey has won the O'Shea Bus Hire Munster Autocross Championship 2015.The Ballyvourney engineer had a terrific season at the wheel of his Subaru Special. He dominated the championship by winning four races outright and accumulating 128 points. Lucey lead from the first round in Skibbereen, and despite problems with tyres in the second round in Clare and gearbox maladies in the third round in Munster, he entered the summer months leading the series and in a confident frame of mind. That middle segment of the championship year was crucial to Lucey's fortune. In the next four events he lifted 78 points out of a possible 80-putting clear daylight between himself and the chasing pack. Third place on the penultimate round in Limerick was enough for Lucey to score his third Munster Autocross Championship.
Second place was claimed by Mooncoin man Peter Brennan (Semog Buggy) with 110 points while Brian Hasset (Semog Buggy) with 93 points took third place back to the Banner county. Fourth and fifth places were claimed by Whitby Moynan (Toyota Special) and Padraig Griffin (JB Buggy). In sixth place Owen Murphy was best saloon in the Subaru Impreza.
Ciaran Ryan from Pallaskenry was the best newcomer but the driver to set the tongues wagging was Askeaton's Christopher O' Callaghan who won in Limerick on his debut autocross and he repeated the victory in Cork two weeks later. Perhaps the return of the Limerick MC to autocross has renewed interest in racing Shannonside.
The class winners were a mixture of newcomers and more seasoned campaigners. William Meade, Ed. Walsh and Orla Beamish are winners for the first time while Lukasz Chapnik, Whitby Moynan and Padraig Griffin and Ger O'Shea have won before. Ger is the sponsor of the series and he won class three in his 205 while his daughter Mary was third in the class. The Kilfinny family are great supporters of the Munster Championship.
