"Happy to say that on this weekend's Sligo Stages Rally I'll be driving the Ford Fiesta RS WRC that Sam has been using this year! Got a quick test in the car last night. So, so different to the Evo in every aspect. Power, handling, braking, sequential gearbox... It's impossible to step out of the car and not have a smile on your face. It's going to be a massive learning experience for myself and John but we're really looking forward to it. See you in Sligo," Josh

With less than a week to go, it’s all systems go in the rallying heartland of Sligo as entries have tipped the one hundred mark and many more expected. The Clerk of the Course , Robert Lyttle and his committee are delighted with the response to date , taking into account the event is an opt out year in The National Championship. The attractiveness of the Sligo Pallets Border series would of course be a factor, particularly as the ever popular championship prizegiving night is hosted in the same venue as Rally HQ, the Sligo Park Hotel. As part of the border series, On the Limit Sport will be recording the event for broadcast on TG4 and Motors TV. Whilst seeding will take place on Monday night, entries will continue to be accepted and allocated competitor numbers but will be reseeded appropriately on the, parc ferme out list.
The stages selected are of a very compact loop circling central service, with third stage of the loop on two kilometres from in service control, leaving reccee on the Saturday very competitor friendly. Number one out in the morning, the Sligo Haulage and Distribution sponsored opener, just over eighteen kilometres, has of a whole never been used by Sligo Stages previously, is good grippy tar but if conditions were damp in the morning, would demand cautious respect. The second stage, sponsored by Kerrigan Quarries, begins with tight demanding sections, but after the second quarter opens out into a continuous flowing downhill section, with the final quarter, a good blast to the end. The Herron Auto stage, before service would have sections used previously, a series of good cuts into ninety rights and lefts, and even a few brave straights nearing the end.
The presentation of the overalls and drive of the day will take place on the finish ramp at Sligo Park Hotel and all class awards will be presented in the function room at 7.30, allowing crews to relax and watch the World Cup final at 8pm.
The event kicks off with Scrutiny, being held again this year in Stephen Street Car Park, sponsored jointly by, Gulf and Kevin Egan Cars. The process is an attempt to bring motorsport to the general public in the heart of Sligo, European Town of Sport, and combining it with a number of exhibits and side shows, including classic and mini car displays.
Constant updated can be viewed on the club website.

The Clerk of the Course for Sligo Stages Rally 2014 , Robert Lyttle , supported by Connacht Motor Club committee have decided to provide a €100 voucher ,to those drivers / entrants who completed the six stages of the 2013 Sligo Stages Rally , towards their entry in the 2014 Stages .
It was decided in the aftermath of the 2013 event, when it was necessary to cancel the final loop of stages in the interest of safety and the protection of road surfaces. The decision on that hot July Sunday was not taken lightly but it was broadly accepted as the correct one as temperatures soared nearing the thirties.
Whilst the 2014 Sligo Stages is a dropped round of the Dunlop National, it is still a counting round of the Sligo Pallets Border Rally Championship. C.O.C. Robert Lyttle, with the benefit of years of experience in Rally planning , will spend a lot of time in advance of the new year selecting a the route of Rally 2014.
