Killarney & District Motor Club held the Jimmy Devane Memorial grass surface Autocross event last weekend. The action took place near Farranfore Village, with over 40 competitors from all over the country taking part and driving a wide variety of cars and special buggies on the day. The weather held off and we had a great day’s racing. The track was technical, fast, with some big jumps and required some precision driving. There was some fierce competition amongst the local drivers for overall honor and the Jimmy Devane Cup. Congratulations to James Lucey Ballyvourney taking 1st overall and claiming the title for his second year, as a friend and fellow club member to Jimmy, he was delighted with his Win.
Also a special thanks to the Kerry Civil Defence ambulance service, Dr Eamon Shannon without whose assistance the running of this event would not be possible. Cyril Warton for the use of his field, whom we are very grateful. A donation will be made to Bee for Battons charity from the proceeds of the event.

The Jimmy Devane Memorial Killarney & District Motor Club Grass Surface Autocrosswill take place on Sunday 4th August 2013. The venue is in Farranfore, Killarney, Co-Kerry and will be sign posted on the day from Farranfore Village. 2011 was the first running of the event under its current name The Jimmy Devane MemorialAutocross. Jimmy a well known autocross and rally competitor passed away in 2009 and the autocross is held in his memory.
The Jimmy Devane Cup is awarded to the fastest time of the day on the event, last year the event was cancelled due to poor weather conditions but in 2011 James Lucey was fastest in his Subaru Engined special and no doubt there will be a big battle this year between all competitors to see who has the honour to take the cup in 2013. The event will be a counting round of the 2013 Munster AutocrossChampionship.
Regulations and entry forms will be available to View / Download for the event shortly.
