On a super-hot day in the sunny south east of Cork, the Village of Cloyne came alive as the rally arrived . Roy White took his first ever rally win while the best of the local crews were Allen Treacy / Bob Fitzgerald in their Corolla.
The Great Stuff Caterers Single Stage Rally is unique in that it is the only single stage rally in the country and this year the second running of the event, the rally hosted a cracking entry of quantity and quality.
First on the stage was the first stage retirement last year Roy White with co-driver Coleman Hurley getting a late call for the seat. Roy showed his seeding was no fluke as he stormed off into the lead in the unique MG ZR 3.4 Seconds ahead of the field . The car was reading a fuel pressure problem but it had not slowed him. Frank Kelly in the Escort took up second place ahead of the Subaru of Colm Murphy who knew he would always struggle on the fast dry tarmac stage against the Escorts.
Eddie Power made good use of the Corolla WRC to hold 4th and the sensation of the rally was the pace of Youghal’s Jason Ryan / Tadgh O’ Sullivan in the 1600 Starlet holding an amazing 5th overall ahead of Ed O Callaghan next was the new Escort of Wesley Patterson who was having teething troubles with the new car.
Next up was Mike Quinn followed by Alastair Cochrane in Escorts ahead of the local IMC battle between Alllen Treacy who was having trouble with the gear shift display and could not figure out which gear he was in, he clouted a bale chicane only damaging the wing and later had an overshoot Mark Dolphin had his own problems with a slipping clutch and was 7 seconds behind.
Run 2 and as Roy White stamped his authority on the event with a second fastest time Kelly had no answer White still had sensors telling him the fuel pressure was not right but it did not slow him he now had a ten second lead .Third was Colm Murphy and he was looking for rain if he was going to go faster than the boys in front , Eddie Power stayed at 4 followed by Ed o Callaghan was up to fifth, with a time nearly 20 seconds quicker than his first run while Wesley Patterson had softened the suspension and was going better .Mike Quinn was now seventh and Jason Ryan had slipped to eight but was still flying in the 1600 Starlet. Tom Flaherty was now 9th and Alastair Cochrane was 10th..
The Battle for best IMC crew raged on Treacy with his gear display now working took another few seconds from Mark Dolphin who can thank his service crew for keeping him in the rally with a clutch change in record time both drivers going hard but Treacy enjoying a 10 second lead going into the last stage.
Run 3 and Roy White showed his class with another fastest time getting faster as the day went on as most crews did he was the only driver to dip under the 10 minutes for the stage and won by 18.5 seconds .even some horrific noises from the back of the MG could not slow Roy on his final and quickest run. Frank Kelly drove his heart out but said today was Roys day but we loved the stage today. Colm Murphy 3rd said it’s too dry and too fast I can’t go any quicker. Fourth was Eddie Power in the Corolla WRC, fifth was Wesley Patterson who said the last run was our best the new car is nearly right it takes time to set up a new car but there is nothing like competition great day today but there is more to come from that car any day your flat in 6th is a good day. Next up the Escorts of Ed O’ Callaghan, Mike Quinn, Alastair Cochrane and Tom Flaherty, Jason Ryan had disappeared from the leader board, while flat out Jason found no fifth gear and while trying to find a gear he clipped a rock and got a puncture a super result was now gone and Jason retired. The battle for top IMC crew resumed on the last stage Mark Dolphin was marginally quicker than Allen Treacy on the last run but Allen Treacy / Bob Fitzgerald had the work done on the first two runs to finish an impressive 10th overall 10 seconds clear of Mark Dolphin / Finbarr Quirke who finished 11th,.
At the finish Ramp a delighted Roy White said a great day my first ever rally win, what a stage fantastic what a great rally great credit due to the Imokilly Motor Club for a fantastic event. These sentiments were echoed by all the top 10 crews at the finish ramp.
A great day for Pat Maguire and Emmet Cronin who with their team at the IMC ,the help of the Sponsors , competitors , our neighbouring motor clubs and everyone who helped make this a truly memorable day in the history of the Imokilly Motor Club. Let’s not forget the residence on the route thanks to you for your help.
The rally HQ at Hartys Bar and Restaurant saw a return to old style rallying and a huge after party where people enjoyed a great night of live entertainment.

Great Stuff Caterers Imokilly Single Stage Rally – July 27th 2013.
Round 4 of the PlasticBags.ie Southern 4 Rally Championship.
Date: Saturday July 27th.
Rally HQ: Harty's Bar and Restaurant, Cloyne.
Contact: Deputy COC: 086 3862776
Total Stage km: 60km
Total Road km; approx. 40km
Last year the Great Stuff Caterers Single Stage Rally promoted by the Imokilly Motor Club burst on to the Irish rally scene and was a huge success, the aim of the Imokilly Motor Club was to bring motorsport and in particular rallying back to East Cork.
That was a long process that started when the club was founded back in 1997 with the aim of running a rally. Well with the first rally done and dusted the focus almost immediately turned to the 2013 event Emmet Cronin and his team set about the process of getting ready for the second running of the event.
All the feedback from last year’s event was taken on board and from discussions with various competitors about the event and the format the 2013 Great Stuff Caterers Single Stage Rally is almost ready to burst into life.
The Great Stuff Caterers Imokilly Single Stage will have classes for all cars except currently homologated WRC’s. The rally will include classes for juniors and Historic rally cars that will be seeded amongst the main field and will compete on all 3 stages.
With costs in mind the team have organised an extremely compact route and the cheapest tarmac rally in Ireland, The entry fee has been set at €270.
The event will take place in the Cloyne Ladysbridge area with some fast smooth tarmac set to test man and machine to the limits. Entries are now being taken and there is huge interest in the event.
There is no doubt that without sponsorship the event could not take place and the Imokilly Motor Club are deeply indebted to our title sponsor Great Stuff Caterers, Mr Bryan Allen and his team who are great supporters of Irish Motorsport.
We would also like to thank our associate sponsors Ace Signs, Cork, Ballyseedy Garden Centre Carrigtwohill, Harty's Bar and Restaurant, Cloyne and Cahill’s Centra Cloyne.
Emmet Cronin said we are delighted to have our sponsors on board please support them where ever possible, Emmet also said the stage is fast and demanding and in great condition. We are delighted once again to be a round of the prestigious (Plasticbags.ie) Southern 4 Rally Championship.
Last year Allen Treacy / Bob Fitzgerald were the first IMC crew home and finished in the top 10 they will be hoping for a good result this year.
The club will require upwards of 80 people to run the event on the day it’s a huge undertaking for a small club and without our neighbouring motor clubs it would not be possible.
We would ask all marshals who wish to help out with the running of this event to contact any club member as soon as possible; there will be a marshal training night prior to the event.
Entries are now available on the club website and there is lots of talk about some very quick drivers wanting to do this event.
Keep an eye on the Imokilly Motorclub website or follow us on facebook ; imokillymotorclub.com
