Chairman of Magherafelt and District Motorclub (M.A.D.M.C) James Mc Keefry was so excited to hear that M.A.D.M.C had been granted a late road closing order for the Tour of the Sperrins rally that he burst in to the old Willie Nelson song “On the road again, we just can’t wait to get on the road again..”
The Tour of The Sperrins is Round 4 of the Carryduff Forklift MSA Northern Ireland Championship. Following the cancellation of Round 3 the Triton Showers Easter Stages, this will be the first opportunity for competitors to rally on closed roads in Northern Ireland in 2013. The Tour of the Sperrins will again be based in Maghera with Rally Headquarters at Walsh’s Hotel. Proprietor Kieran Bradley expressed his delight at the good news stating. “In Walsh’s we are delighted to be involved with M.A.D.M.C and welcome competitors and spectators to the event which will start at our hotel on Saturday 11th May.”
The 2013 Tour of the Sperrins will consist of three stages completed twice. Stages one and four are 4.5 miles sponsored by the PPP Group, stages two and five are 9.4 miles sponsored by McCormack Directional Drilling and stages three and six are 9.1 miles and are sponsored by KDM Hire. There are approximately 45 stage miles in total which makes the entry fee of £275 an opportunity surely not to be missed! There will be a free service on the way from the Start Ramp at Walsh’s Hotel to Stage 1 as well as a 40 minute service for competitors and crew between Stages 3 and 4.
Chairman of the Motorclub, and Clerk of the Course, for the Tour of the Sperrins, James McKeefry claimed that M.A.D.M.C view themselves as being a real ‘clubman’s club.’ He added that with scrutiny being carried out on the morning of the event, the reduced entry fee and the exciting tarmac stages, he believes that the 2013 Tour of the Sperrins will be an attractive event for competitors. McKeefry added that we are trying to keep the costs down and the excitement up. We have already had expressions of interest from drivers as far away as Kerry, Leeds and New York. James McKeefry expressed his gratitude to the new stage sponsors for this year’s event- KDM Hire, McCormack Directional Drilling and the PPP Group.
Greg McCormack owner of McCormack Directional Drilling is delighted to be a stage sponsor and he stated that this year’s rally is very special to his family as his daughter Caron has just received her rally licence in the post and is brave enough to navigate for her dad in the event.
Managing Director of KDM Hire Keith McIvor is also very pleased to be involved in the Tour of the Sperrins. As a rally competitor he said that he appreciates the time and effort it takes to organise an event – especially one as prestigious as the Tour of the Sperrins.
Director of the PPP Group, Peter O’Kane, said he was glad to continue his long association with M.A.D.M.C. Mr O’Kane congratulated the club on successfully securing a Road Closing order and wished them every success in planning the event.
