Following the cancellation of Round 1 of the McGrady Insurance Navigation Rally Championship, the 2013 season began with the Queens University Belfast Motor Club Jumping Jack rally on Friday 8th February. The event ran from the Derryhirk Inn near Aghagallon and took in 70miles of the finest driving roads between Lough Neagh and Lisburn. 18 competitors started the event in cars ranging from a Vauxhall Vectra to a Triumph TR5.
After 12 sections, Lesley Young and Lewis Boyd emerged as overall winners, ahead of the hard pushing James Woods and Chris Ragg. The Novice Class 3 had a healthy entry of 8 crews which made for stiff competition all night. A cameo appearance by Barry Gilpin and Denis Morton was rewarded with a win from Gavin and Stuart Campbell in secondplace. Mark Cromie and Gareth Jackson in an immaculate VW Beetle used their previous experience to show the class 4 competitors a clean pair of mudflaps. The crew of Colin Burch and Stephen Kennedy on their first ever navigation rally came home in 2nd place, which was an excellent result.
The next round of the championship is the Enniskillen Motor Club Erne Safari Rally on Friday 1st March.
