Counting Round - 2012/13 Hewison Autotest Championship

On Sunday 13th January the Club held their first event of 2013, the
Midland Motor Club Autotest as part of the Hewison Trophy Autotest.
This was a counting round of the National Championship and took place
in Mastertech Business Park Athlone Road, Longford by kind
permission of Seamus Quinn. The event was held under the
International Sporting Code of the FIA, and the General Competition
Rules of Motorsport Ireland. Motorsport Ireland officials attended on the
day. This event brought the elite of competitors of this skilled Motorsport discipline to Longford from North and South of Ireland to take part in this event.. The Autotest was also the first round of the Clubs Championship sponsored by Toytown longford. Frost on the test area was a challenge for the organisers but the team of Marshals lead by Tom Raftery sweeped and cleared the ice from the test routes prepared by Tom and Sam. After the first test, two drivers were very close. Steven Ferguson in his Mini Special had a minimum gap between Six times champion and master of Auto Test skills Eddie Peterson in a Mini Special narrowly was second from Steven Ferguson after the first test, and fourth our local man Sam Johnston in his Mini Special was doing very well for the club.The Midland Motor Club an there own autotest after the first test Colin Duffy was leading in his Starlet.At the end of the autotest the overall victory went to Steven Ferguson in his Mini Special from Eddie Peterson in a Mini Special.Our local man Sam Johnston took 4th overall and 2nd in class B and the overall win in the Midland Motor Club autotest went to Colin Duffy.The club and competors would like to Thank Tom and his Team for a very well run event.
Midland Motor Club covers counties Roscommon Leitrim, Longford, Westmeath & Offaly. The Club run Navigation Trials, Autotest Trials Autocross and Stage Rally events throughout the year. Membership is €15 per person and €5 for each additional family member to join. Membership numbers were close to 150 members in 2012. Club Meetings are held the second Monday of every month and new members are always welcome.
