Newry Motor Club is organising a navigation rally on Friday evening 16 September.

Did you ever attended a Navigation Rally?
If you have, you might have great memories
If you have not, you probably have no idea what it's all about.

Here is a bit of information which either makes you think you would like to start, start again or confirm you would not like to do it again.

Once registered at the Mountain House bar you will get a set of instructions and timecard.
These instructions do not come in the form of a set of Satnav coordinates but will be well know symbols which if followed will bring you to various checkpoints and finally return to the starting point.

Doesn't sound to difficult now, does it?

Well driving in unknown territory, not knowing where to go, no Satnav to help you out, just a map, some instructions and a dark night will make it a tad more difficult. Ever tried reading a map in the dark in a moving car on country roads on the Isle of Ireland. It's a lot more difficult than you think.

However if you do manage to follow the intended route and make it back to the Mountain House Bar, you will find that others found it difficult as well and lots of debate will be had what the right route was or how you nearly or completely missed a checkpoint

It's not about speed but rather making it to the various checkpoint on time as given on your time card.

So, what do you need to be part of this?
It's very simple, if you have a driving license, a road legal car (Insured, Taxed and MOT'ed) and someone to help you either by driving or reading the map, you can get involved.
There are several categories but if you have never tried it before you can start in Class 4.
