Robert Morgan wins Larne MC drenched sprint.

Kirkstown racing circuit welcomed Larne Motor Club for the seventh round of the 2010 N.I Sprint Championship. 55 competitors started the event which quickly became a tricky test, with the rain setting in for the day.
Robert Morgan in his Pilbeam MP82 was the overall winner of the day despite only posting one time with an impressive 146.24s. Robert became stranded when his left rear suspension gave way coming out of the chicane on his second timed run. John McGaffin brought his WRC Subaru Impreza home in second place overall with Rudi Gage completing the top 3 fastest of the day. The weather played havoc with a lot of single seaters, many finding the wet conditions difficult.
David Francis put in quick time of 161.73s in his Ford Escort Cosworth but he and Seamus Murphy in his Ford Escort Cosworth also found it difficult getting their powerful machines to transfer the power onto the track. The Haveron family were out in force today, with Kevin's daughter Liza making her debut at the event in brother John's Peugeot 205. Liza proved to be a surprise to many around the circuit showing no fear in the wet conditions, setting her first time only 2.2s behind Mal Haveron. Many wondered if turning 50 was getting to Mal and if Liza could find the time needed to beat him. However Mal put aside turning 50 and came home in front of Liza with a time of 189.13s. Sean Haveron in his Ford Escort Cosworth fresh from his third place at the Ulster Rally was to be found in the back of Kevin's lorry cutting tyres to adapt to the wet conditions. Sean took third in his class behind another local man Ivan Marsden driving his Mitsibushi Evo Rally Car. Kevin brought his Westfield home setting the fastest time in class 4, helping to seal the class 4 championship win for 2010. Arthur Peoples dispite a spin at Colonial Corner managed to take second place in class 4.
Father and son Gardner and Simon McIlwaine teamed up in Gardner's Westfield to get family bragging rights in Class 7. Gardner was the happiest McIlwaine of the day by ending Simon's hopes of getting second place. Simon had to settle for fifth in class seven with a time of 209.95s after struggling to cope with the wet conditions.
Larne Motor Club would like to thank the Marshalls who braved the horrible conditions all day. The rain becoming worse through the course of the day led one club member realising he needed new tyres at the front of his car and he went to extreme measures to get them. Unfortunately they turned out to be the wrong size.
