This weekend’s Abbey Hotel Forestry Stages Rally is round four of the Petro Systems National Forestry Championship. Based in Donegal town, the event marks the first ever visit by the forestry championship to county Donegal. Scrutiny takes place on Friday evening and the rally proper kicks off early Saturday morning. Clerk of the course Daniel Conaghan and his team have worked diligently to produce a format of ten special stages, with five different stages repeated twice. Over fifty crews have entered including all the championship contenders.
By virtue of his three wins from three rallies Pat O’ Connell has a maximum score and he leads the championship with sixty three points. The Cashel man is six points ahead of Dubliner John Reid who was runner up on the those three rounds. In third place is Mick Cuddihy with thirty nine points, four ahead of fourth place Enda Mc Nulty and John Mc Loughlin rounds off the top five with a score of thirty three. O’Connell and Reid have dominated the championship to-date and are in the driving position to land the 2010 Petro Systems National Forestry title. Saturdays result will have major bearing in the direction of the championship.
The classes are also very competitive in this years Petro Systems National Forestry Championship, and there has been some great racing . The class leaders are as follows:
