There should be a Polish-Italian duel for the win in oncoming 67th Rally Poland. There are 48 crews at the entry list for the event, which is a combined round of the European Rally Championship (ERC) and the Polish Rally Championship (PRC) this year.
Luca Rossetti (Abarth Grande Punto S2000), Luca Betti (Peugeot 207 S2000) and Corrado Fontana (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX) open the entry list. The Italian trio (in the above order) occupies the three leading places in the ERC classification after two rounds of 2010 season. It is obvious, they aim to score some more points in a Mikolajki-based rally.
All three Italian guests as well as Czech Antonin Tlustak (Skoda Fabia S2000), and Yurii Protasov will have to fight with a strong bunch of local drivers. As many as four Polish drivers entered ERC 2010. Together with Michal Solowow and Maciej Oleksowicz ( both Ford Fiesta S2000), there are also Kajetan Kajetanowicz (Subaru Impreza) and Szymon Ruta (Peugeot 207 S2000) on the list. Each of them plan to tackle at least five ERC rounds this year. Solowow, Kajetanowcz and Ruta start their European campaign during 67th Rally Poland.
Apart from nine drivers mentioned above, there are many other pilots who should be the favorites to win in a Poland’s biggest motorsport event. One of them is Krzysztof Holowczyc (Peugeot 207 S2000), who was 6th last year when Rally Poland was a round of the World Rally Championship. The so-called „Holek“ won the event on three ocasions (1996, 1998, 2005). Three years ago due to puncture he did not manage to equal the record of four victories, which belongs to Sobieslaw Zasada (1964, 1967, 1969, 1971).
Leszek Kuzaj (Skoda Fabia S2000) will be fightihg for his third win in Rally Poland. Previously he was the best in the event in 2001 and 2006. 67th Rally Poland will be a great challenge for Michal Kosciuszko (Skoda Fabia S2000), Tomasz Kuchar (Peugeot 207 S2000) and three times Polish champion Bryan Bouffier (Peugeot 207 S2000) who have never won the Polish round of the European Rally Championship yet.
There should be an interesting battle in Citroen Racing Trophy as well. All drivers plan to beat the Bebenek brothers who won first two rounds of PRC 2010. It will be a diffucult task, as Bochnia-based duo won Rally Poland two years ago (Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX).
67th Rally Poland (June 4-6) consits of 16 special stages totalling 255 kms. The length of the whole route is 864 ksm. The main feature of the event will be Mikolajki Superspecial – a spectacular stage tackled as many as four times. The Sunday Superspecial is to be broadcast by TV4 and Polast Sport.
