Despite the difficult economic times for everyone 107 competitors left the start ramp for the Shannon Key West Midland Moto Stages Rally 2010 with 83 cars in the main field and 16 Juniors. Weather conditions were ideal for multi stages rallying with sunshine all day and most of the competitors took advantage of the dry conditions to run on slick tyres for almost all the stages. Competitors were delighted with the configuration of both technical and challenging stages set out by Sean Cahill COC and his team to test their skill and pace. Last years winner Maurice Moffett returned to defend his title with Martin McGarrity navigator in their Class 14 Toyota Starlet RWD but it was Donegal men and last years Class 14 3rd place winners Declan and Brian Boyle in their Mark II Escort that took 1st place this year. Declan and Brian were fastest all day and after the first loop 3 stages were 23 seconds ahead of Moffett going into service. Moffett reacted in the second loop of 3 stages fastest by 2s on SS4 matching the MarkII time on SS5 but +2s on SS6 going into service again. Declans lead on the first loop and fantastic run in the Mark II on the third loop of 3 stages was too much for Maurice to bring back. Paul Kiely and Pat McSharry in their Mitsubishi Evo took 3rd with local man Tommy Doyle in 4th which left him first in Class 7.
Junior winners were 1st place Stephan Furey/Trevor Graham 2nd James Whelan /Richard Whelan and 3rd Liam McMullen/John Coll.
It was a good day for many of the Midland Motor Club crews too with a Class10 win for Chris Kelly/Shay McKenna and 3rd place accolades going to Sean Mullervy/David Kellegher, Vincent Collins/Fintan Kiloe, Tommie Rafferty/Cathriona Costello in their respective Classes. Anthony Dolan/Nigel Feeney took 1st Midlands Motor Club trophy, 2nd place trophy went to Stephan Faughnan/Barry Brady an excellent result for Stephen driving in his first Stages Rally coming in ahead of his father Pat Faughnan and Kevin Reynolds who took 3rd place trophy. 4th went to Brian Halligan/Damien Horan and 5th David Donoughue/James Comer. Special awards at prize giving were Stephen Healy/E.Fallon for the Arron Hagan memorial award. Pascal Hennessy/P.Quinn for the Tony Gibbons memorial award. Alan Gibbons/Noel Mulvihill with an impressive 22nd overall took the Declan Collum memorial award. Club member Christy Kelly was delighted to award the Ciaran Kelly memorial to Eamonn Brady/Terry Mullervy. The Club was delighted with the huge turn out of spectators to see stages and enjoy the action. Thank you to the Gardai Longford Co. Council Ambulance Doctors Rally rescue Marshals officials Motorsport Ireland and above all the residents along the rally route for their support and good wishes to the club to run this event as well as our sponsors Shannon Key west Hotel main sponsor Mulleady Waste Management Tighes Rooskey Finnegans Garage Ballymahon and Service Matters Roscommon.

Donagh Kelly and Kevin Flanagan will be contesting this weekends Shannon Key West Hotel, Rooskey Stages Rally in an ex KPL Ford Focus WRC. This will be the Donegal crew’s first rally in the car and are using this event as a shakedown for the 2010 UTV Drive Circuit of Ireland.
This year Donagh and Kevin plan to compete on the Hankook MSA Northern Ireland Championship plus other selected events and with a new sponsor onboard in Airtricity they will be hoping for some good results in 2010.
Their main objective of this rally is to get some miles under their belt for the season ahead and to familiarise himself with the new car. The rally kicks off at 08.45 on Sunday 28th March with the crews talking 130 stage kilometres before they return back to the finish ramp.

Midland Motor Clubs flagship event, the MOTO stages Rally is back in Longford this year with less than 3 weeks before the start. The 2010 Shannon Key West Hotel, Rooskey Stages Rally takes place on Sunday the 28th of March. The event is once again a round of the Midlands East Rally Championship which has a new sponsor in Loughran Signs.
Plans are well under way for the event with Clerk of the Course, Sean Cahill from Ballinalee along with his Rally committee putting the final touches to this highly anticipated event. Midland Motor Club is delighted once again to have the Shannon Key West Hotel as main sponsor to the event.
Scrutiny and Parc Ferme are across the river in Co. Roscommon at the old Glanbia site while the service area is beside Longford town.
The event itself takes the usual format of 3 stages completed three times giving a total of nine stages, equating to approximately 130 stage kilometres.
The stages are located in the general area of Drumlish, Aughnacliffe, and Ballinalee with centralised servicing after each loop of 3 stages.
Midland Motor Club is indebted to the residents along the rally route for all their co-operation and assistance.
Despite the downturn in the economy the entries are steadily arriving in to event secretary Josephine Lane Flynn and the club are requesting all competitors to get their entries in as soon as possible.
On Sunday the 28th of March 151 cars will be flagged off from Parc Feirme at the old Glanbia grounds in Rooskey. This year’s event will contain a main field and junior categories attracting entries from all over Ireland as well as the many local competitors from Longford, Roscommon, Leitrim and Westmeath.
Last years winner Maurice Moffett and Jason McKenna are ready to defend their title after the dramatic finish to last year’s event.
Entry forms may be downloaded through the dedicated Moto Stages website. Entries are now open and the entry fee for 2010 has been reduced this year to €495 with €250 for juniors.
Competitors are reminded the closing date for entries is the 14th March.
