This Easter Weekend see’s the Birr & District Motor Club hold its National Championship Grass Surface Autocross in memory of Billy Cavanagh Modreeny who died recently. Billy was a founder member of the Birr & District Motor Club along with winning the National Autocross Championship for a record of Six years in a row from 1979 to 1984 driving his hand built Rover V8 Special. An accolade in which a lot of drivers tried to equal, but never achieved since or before. It will be interesting to see this weekend how the V8 Special will perform in the hands of siblings Dorothy, William and John. Billy had a very friendly personality and was always very approachable for help and advice on all matters in life varying from Rally Cars to Table Tennis. Our prayers and thoughts are with the Cavanagh family at this time.
Autocross is car racing in a field on a track against the clock. The track is marked using flags and if a driver hit a flag a 5 Second penalty is applied. This years National Autocross Championship is being sponsored by D & B Windows Waterford.
