The organisers of the REIS MSA Asphalt Rally Championship are pleased to
announce that the ‘Millington Escort Challenge’ will run on all nine rounds of the
2011 calendar.
The brainchild of Roy Millington, of Millington Racing Engines, the Challenge will
cater for crews in front-engined, rear-wheel drive Mk1-Mk5 Ford Escorts up to 2.5
litres – and, as long as the engines conform to 2011 MSA Blue Book regulations,
they don’t have to be Millingtons! The field will be split into two classes - up to
and including 2100cc and 2101cc up to and including 2500cc – and there will be
both on-event and end-of-season awards for successful crews.
Welcoming the initiative, REIS Championship Coordinator Andrew Haill believes
that Simon Mauger’s success in 2010 is proof positive of just what can be done
at this level in a well-driven Escort.
“I’ve no doubt that Simon’s 2nd overall in the
MSA Championship and outright BTRDA Asphalt Challenge win has given hope
to any number of drivers of similar cars and we look forward to seeing them out
on events this year.”

Having secured the permit to run the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship for the next three years, the BTRDA (British Trials & Rally Drivers’ Association) is delighted to announce that REIS have confirmed their intention to remain as headline sponsor for 2011.
Following the amalgamation of the MSA Asphalt Championship & BTRDA Asphalt Rally Series at the start of this year, the 2011 calendar retains the wide range of events that has proved so popular. Army ranges, closed public roads on the mainland, the Isle of Man and in Southern Ireland, plus the unique special stage venues provided by the Rally of the Midlands and the Patriot Stages at Caerwent all go to provide something for everyone. With each competitor’s best 5 scores from the total of nine events to count towards their final tally, the calendar also caters for all budgets.
Commenting on REIS’ plans for 2011, General Manager Phil Barnard said
‘We have a long-standing relationship with the BTRDA and our involvement with the MSA Asphalt Rally Championship has proved to be mutually beneficial. It is, therefore, pleasing to be able to continue our sponsorship for a fourth year.’
