SOLBERG AND TANÄK TO DEMONSTRATE FORD FIESTA RS WRC AT THE RALLY SHOW

Posted: May 11, 2011 9:48 PM

M-Sport is pleased to announce that Henning Solberg and Ott Tänak will drive a Ford Abu Dhabi World Rally Team Ford Fiesta RS WRC at The Rally Show in Cornbury Park this weekend.

Solberg, a member of the M-Sport Stobart Ford World Rally Team, joins The Rally Show line-up for the second consecutive year, and will appear on Saturday 14th May.

Malcolm Neill the show’s Managing Director said:
“We are delighted to welcome Henning back, he was a huge star of last year’s event, and when he gets behind the wheel of the new Fiesta RS WRC it should be awesome.”

Henning Solberg adds:
“I really enjoyed The Rally Show last year – the crowds were fantastic. We’re very lucky in rallying to have so many loyal fans, I really appreciate all their support and it’s fantastic to be able to help give something back to our fans. I’m really looking forward to next weekend and can’t wait to show everyone Ford’s new Fiesta RS WRC.”

On Sunday young Estonian Ott Tänak, who claimed his maiden win in last weekend’s S-WRC category in Sardinia, will take to the wheel of the Fiesta RS WRC on Sunday 15th May.

He is the protégé of five-time WRC event winner Markko Märtin and impressed last weekend with his seventh-place finish at the fifth round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

“I had a fantastic time at last week’s Rally Italia Sardegna and now I’m really excited to come to the UK and perform at The Rally Show. The fans are such a big part of rallying and I’m looking forward to meeting everyone there on Sunday,” said Tänak.

The Rally Show is a firm fixture on the motorsport calendar that is being held for the first time at Cornbury Park, Oxfordshire. Alongside competitive rallies, the weekend will include demonstrations by world rally cars, buggies and stunt driver Terry Grant. On Saturday 14th May the crowd will enjoy a fly-past by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial flight that recently took part in the Royal Wedding celebrations.

DANI SORDO, HENNING SOLBERG & OTT TANAK TO STAR IN THE FIRST RALLY SHOW AT CORNBURY PARK

MINI WRC Team driver Dani Sordo has joined the line-up for The Rally Show at Cornbury Park this weekend. Just one week after its debut at Rally Italy, the Spaniard will demonstrate the brand new MINI John Cooper Works WRC, which was designed and built by Prodrive in Banbury. The eyes of the motorsport world will be on Cornbury Park's 1.1-mile special Sstage as the MINI WRC makes its first appearance in the UK.

The Rally Show - a firm fixture on the motorsport calendar - is being held for the first time in Oxfordshire. Visitors will see an array of classic and modern rally cars on show, including the new M-Sport Ford Fiesta WRC, currently flying high in the World Rally Championship. It will be driven by World Rally star Henning Solberg (on Saturday 14 May) and newcomer Ott Tanak (on Sunday 15 May). S2000 driver Tanak impressed at Rally Italy last week, finishing seventh in a field of 18 World Rally Cars.

Alongside the competitive rallies, the weekend will include demonstrations by stunt driver Terry Grant. On Saturday 14 May, the crowd will also enjoy a fly-past by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which recently took part in the Royal Wedding celebrations. The Rally Show is always pleased to welcome stars past and present to the event; veteran drivers attending this year include MINI legend Paddy Hopkirk, and former British Rally Champions Russell Brookes, Gwyndaf Evans and Jimmy McRae.

Malcolm Neill, The Rally Show Managing Director said:
"We are extremely excited to bring The Rally Show to motorsport fans in Oxfordshire. It will be the first time the British public will be able to see the MINI WRC and the M-Sport Ford Fiesta RS WRC in action. It will be a fantastic weekend for all the family".

Cornbury Park is the family home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick, and includes 1,700 acres of some of the most ancient private parkland in Britain. Its connection to rallying was formed in the 1990s, when it hosted a special stage during the Network Q RAC Rally.

NEW MINI WORLD RALLY CAR TO DEMO AT THE RALLY SHOW

The Rally Show is thrilled to confirm that the new MINI John Cooper Works World Rally Car, launched this week at the MINI plant in Cowley, Oxford, will demonstrate to the public for the first time in the UK, during The Rally Show at Cornbury Park on 14/15 May 2011.

Malcolm Neill, The Rally Show Managing Director, said:
"The new MINI WRC is one of the biggest news stories in rallying for years, and we are delighted to be able to offer the first chance to see it. The fact that MINIs are built in Oxford and that the rally car has been designed and built by Prodrive in Banbury, close to the Cornbury Park Estate, makes it all the more exciting."

Campbell Roy, MINI WRC Team manager added:
"We are looking forward to giving British rally fans their first opportunity to view the new MINI John Cooper Works WRC in action. We know that everyone is very eager to see the car on home soil and we can't think of a more fitting event than The Rally Show at Cornbury Park, just a few miles from where the car is built. The team will only just have returned from making its WRC debut on the Rally of Italy in Sardinia the previous weekend, so there should be plenty of interest and excitement generated in advance of this outing."

The Rally Show has become a key event in the motorsport calendar; in May 2011, it is being held for the first time on the Cornbury Park Estate, the family home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick. It is an accessible motorsport festival, featuring a wide variety of contemporary and classic rally cars, demonstrating on a 1.1-mile special stage which runs through quintessentially beautiful Oxfordshire parkland. The weekend is for everyone, from the seasoned motorsport enthusiasts through to family spectators.

Rally Show at Cornbury Park

With the New Year well under way and the doors of Autosport International closed for another year, entries are starting to come in thick and fast for the Rally Show at Cornbury, which will run on the weekend of May 14/15. Cornbury Park was featured on BBC "Top Gear" on Sunday 30 Jan.

Apart from the venue itself and its 100 percent asphalt stage, new for 2011 among the rally events held over the weekend is the Ford Escort Challenge. This is open to Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts, whose drivers will compete to win the CG Neill 'Austin Dobson' Perpetual Trophy.

One of the first entries for the Escort Challenge is former British Rally Champion Gwyndaf Evans, who will drive a Mk2 Ford Escort RS1800 prepared by Phil Mills' company, Viking Motor Sport. Not satisfied with just building the car, Phil Mills - co-driver to Petter Solberg when they won the World Championship for Subaru in 2003 - will be co-driving Gwyndaf at the Rally Show. Pirelli will be sponsoring the car for the Show. This particular car was originally built for the 2010 Roger Albert Clark Rally.

Among other entries already received for this new event is one from Jim Whelan, who will drive the Mk2 Escort which was piloted by Jimmy McRae to second place in the 2007 Roger Albert Clark Rally.

The Rally Show's charity partner is once again McRae Vision, who will be attending in force and bringing two cars to Cornbury Park: a Subaru Impreza and a Ford Sierra Cosworth. Bboth will be driven by Jimmy McRae. McRae Vision will also be presenting the Colin McRae Trophy at the Show for the second time. This special prize is awarded to the driver and car combination judged to have provided the best entertainment during the weekend. Last year, Mick Strafford won it in his astonishing Vauxhall Firenza, powered by a massive Chevrolet V8 engine.

Another popular feature of the Rally Show is the History of Rallying, where drivers bring noteworthy and often original cars from the past to demonstrate on the stage. This year, the range of cars will cover the years from the early 1960s - when BMC Mini Coopers and Austin Healeys ruled the roost - to the very end of the 20th Century, when Subaru ran their very first World Rally Car. In between, there will be several unique rally cars, including - of course - a brace of Ford Escorts!

For spectators wishing to buy tickets, these are now for sale online at the Rally Show website. It is worth noting that the bargain-priced two-day tickets can only be bought online, although single-day tickets will still be available on the gate.

The Rally Show at Cornbury Park is on 14/15 May 2011.

After four successful years of running The Rally Show at Chatsworth in Derbyshire, it has been mutually agreed that variations available from the estate roads to provide a suitable rally stage have been - for the time being, at least - exhausted. Thus the Rally Show at Chatsworth will not happen later this year. Instead, the Rally Show will run just once this year, at a new venue in Cornbury Park on 14/15 May.

Speaking about this decision, Malcolm Neill, the event director, said:
"It is sad that we seem to have used all the possible combinations at Chatsworth. Last year, we had to use a stretch of artificial metal road to make the course viable, which is not really the kind of thing you would normally encounter on a rally. We want the Rally Show experience for our competitors, participants and spectators to be totally authentic."

The Rally Show provides an exciting mix of actual rally events, demonstrations of rally cars both old and new, and static displays of cars. In addition, there are personalities from rallying's past and stars of today, all of whom join in the activities. Away from the actual rally stage, with its almost continuous action over the two days, there are plenty of other things to do, such as getting behind the wheel of a trials car, having a meal, or taking the family to the fairground.

The Rally Show at Cornbury Park is on 14/15 May 2011.

Two Rally Shows for 2011, Cornbury first, Chatsworth second

Rally Show Ltd. are delighted to announce that in May 14th & 15th 2011 they are bringing The Rally Show to a new venue, Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire.

Cornbury Park, the family home of Lord and Lady Rotherwick, provides an exciting new location for this popular motorsport festival. Since its launch in 2007, The Rally Show has attracted more than 70 000 visitors and competitors to Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Some of the biggest names in world rallying have attended including Marcus Grönholm, Rauno Aaltonen, Paddy Hopkirk, Stig Blomqvist, Bjorn Waldegard, Ari Vatanen, Jimmy McRae, Mikko Hirvonen and Russell Brookes.

Malcolm Neill, Director of The Rally Show said,
“Cornbury is a superb venue for our event, and proved its motorsport credentials when it hosted special stages on the Network Q RAC Rally in the 1990s. The special stage runs around the main house and is 100% smooth asphalt. It is just over a mile long, with great spectator viewing and a hairpin finish. Competing cars will be able to start at thirty second intervals which will enable us to pack as much action as possible into the two?day event.”

Over two days, The Rally Show boasts a combination of competitive rallies, and demonstrations of the latest World Rally Cars and Historic Rally Cars. It is an event for the whole family to enjoy, with the opportunity for spectators to drive specialist trials cars, or even brave a guest ride in a rally car.

The new event at Cornbury Park will be equally unmissable for motorsport fans, and we are thrilled to confirm that leading stunt driver Terry Grant will be there to entertain the crowds. Malcolm Neill added
“we are extremely pleased that the fantastic facilities at Cornbury Park will allow us to offer extensive camping and motor home parking. We want to encourage as many people as possible to come and enjoy the festival for the whole weekend”.

Tickets for The Rally Show, Cornbury Park, 14th & 15th May 2011 are on sale now at www.therallyshow.org. A special discounted price is available until 31st December.

The Rally Show at Chatsworth is scheduled to run on October 8th/9th, 2011.
