NEC Birmingham 13-16 January 2011
Posted: January 10, 2011 8:16 PM
The JRM Group will have a major presence at this week’s Autosport International, Europe’s biggest annual motorsport exhibition, which takes place at Birmingham’s NEC from 13 - 16 January. JRM’s stand will be located right next to the main Autosport Stage, the focal point for many of the visitors attending the show’s four days.
Taking pride of place in the JRM display will be one of its 600bhp Sumo Power GT Nissan GT-Rs. Purpose-built to compete in the FIA GT1 World Championship by NISMO (Nissan Motorsports International Co. Ltd) and prepared and run by the team at its East Sussex-based technical centre, the car is one of only five of its kind in the world.
With the team’s two Nissans having returned only a few days ago from the final round of the 2010 GT1 series in Argentina, the team have worked non-stop to repair the cars in time for the show. Featured on the stand is car no. 22, which is the one which powered Warren Hughes and Jamie Campbell-Walter to victory at Silverstone last year, a performance that rewarded the team with the coveted Tourist Trophy.
In honour of this achievement, the oldest perpetual award in motorsport will proudly be on display alongside the car, giving the public a rare opportunity to see this legendary prize that is usually retained by the Royal Automobile Club at its London premises.
The team’s sister car no. 23, will also appear at this year’s Autosport International when, in the Live Action Arena, Michael Krumm and Peter Dumbreck will join Hughes and Campbell-Walter to demonstrate just what a GT1 Nissan GT-R looks and sounds like in action! All four Sumo Power GT drivers will be appearing on the stand during the course of the show to sign autographs.
Also on display will be one of the company’s Group N Mitsubishi Evolution Xs, similar to the one that was driven successfully last year by Gwyndaf Evans and with which he rewarded JRM with the British Rally Championship Teams’ title. The experienced Welshman will also be attending the show and putting one of the team’s Mitsubishi rally cars through its paces in the Live Action Arena.
As the emphasis of the exhibition changes from core motorsport on Thursday and Friday to a more public persona on Saturday and Sunday, so will JRM’s display. Whilst the Sumo Power GT Nissan GT-R will remain, it will be joined by JRM’s Lancer Evolution X RS demonstrator.
This has been used extensively for track and media events to promote the company’s ability to make Mitsubishis perform exceptionally well. And, to graphically demonstrate this, the JRM400RS Evolution X track-day car will be put in the hands of stunt-driver Terry Grant, who will be ‘performing’ in the Live Action Arena.
To further promote its performance side of the business, the company will present its newly built Nissan S15 Drift car at the show. Featuring many NISMO tuning parts, it will be flying the flag for www.nismocompetition.com, the forthcoming website for official NISMO tuning parts.
Adding to its activities at Autosport International, the JRM Group invites all show-goers to enter a free prize draw to win two complimentary tickets for the UK round of the 2011 FIA GT1 World Championship. Taking place at Silverstone on 5th June, the lucky winners will have the opportunity to meet the Sumo Power GT team and be given an exclusive tour of the pit garage.
