Daniel Barry and Martin Brady have in 2010 been embarking on an ambitious programme of Intercontinental Rally Challenge events so far this year having taken to the unknown of snow covered French alps in the Monte Carlo rally and then the sunnier climbs of Gran Canaria's undulating hills. However the challenge for the Irish pairing has been one of unfamiliar events in new regions that has been unavoidably been hampered by niggling mechanical problems in their family run Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 9. The next event in the I.R.C calendar is another famous prestigious event in Ypres Belgium and since the return from Gran Canaria all efforts have been focused on being ready for that next outing. So while the team works hard at home in Wexford in the south east corner of Ireland to prepare Daniel and Martin will be traveling from their homes in Enniskerry and Navan respectively to Wervik to join the Belgian team Auto's Dekeersgieter and compete in this weekends 12 Hours of Wervick rally, a traditional warm up event for the Ypres rally.
Daniel commented
"we wanted to get some miles under our belt before Ypres and to also perhaps get a feel for what Belgian tarmac is like as its clearly a very specalised terrain we made some enquires with contacts in Belgian Rallying and when we spoke to Freddy from Auto's Dekeersgieter he was very helpful and enthusiastic about having us in one of his cars for Wervick and just like that it all fell into place"
The car that Daniel and Martin will compete in is a GrpN Toyota Starlet, Martin is looking forward to the event saying "this will be great experience for us, I know it will require a bit of adjustment for Daniel as its 2005 since he last drove a front wheel drive car and to step back to a small car from an Evo may be a culture shock for him but for me I have been in quite a few 2wd cars this year already and at the end of the day we are going there to learn the intricacies of Belgian Tarmac and get to the end of the event having enjoyed it and taken the most out of it, we are very glad for the help of Donna of Team Coordin8 and the Auto's Dekeersgieter team for making this possible for us and I know it will give us good confidence going to Ypres and back on the IRC trail in just two weeks.
