Carrick on Suir Motor Club will round off their motor sport season with a winter rallysprint on Sunday next the 1st of November at Kiltorcan Raceway Karting Circuit, Ballyhale, Co. Kilkenny. James Doherty in his Toyota Starlet will be back to defend his title that he claimed twelve months ago, but this year he will have some stiff opposition from the likes of David James (Mk11 Ford Escort) followed by Trevor Mulligan also in his Mk11, who is in great form after his second place finish in the GSMC Mini Stages only two weeks ago and rounding off the sideways action will be Terrence O’Shaughnessy in his Toyota Corolla (Twin Cam). Apart from the top seeds there is a fine field mounting up in each of the classes which will lead to a very entertaining day’s action. Building on the success of last year Billy Collins again takes charge as Clerk of the Course and is delighted to announce that the event will be co sponsored by Suirside Construction, Billy Ryan Mobile Tyre Service and Pat Kerley D and B Windows. Billy will be hoping that the 2009 event will round of another great year for the Carrick Club. He with the help of the rallysprint committee has been working hard over the last two months organising a great day’s action for both participants and spectators.
The Rallysprint discipline gives the opportunity to entrants with Rally Cars including Four Wheel Drive & Turbo charged cars, Rallycross Cars and Hillclimb Saloon Cars. The event also offers the opening to competitors double driving and each car entered with two drivers will be deemed to be a separate entry. The biggest attraction of the Rallysprint is that the event gives the chance to entrants to take a passenger during a timed run. So if you have a sponsor, member of the service crew or a friend that has helped out on other events during the year this is a great time to pay them back. Details of this are on the event regulations from the club website. A run will consist of two laps of the circuit. There will be one practice run and it is intended to have three timed runs. Cars will be started in class order.
For spectators the Kiltorcan Raceway offers both outdoor and indoor amenities. There’s a large outdoor viewing area as you enter the track which offers full views of both the track and pits area. Indoor facilities offer both a full view of the racing circuit and shop. For the Rallysprint event the Carrick Club will also be providing a catering service with hot food served all day. An extra attraction for the day is the voice of Irish Motorsport Dougie Hughes will be on hand giving live commentary in his own inimitable style.
Time Schedule for the day is as follows: Scrutiny will start at 8 am and will run until 10 am. There will be a Practice Run between 10.15 am and 11.15 am with the first timed run getting under way at 11.30 am.
