The “Carrick on Suir Motor Club Hillclimb kicks into action next Saturday and Sunday the 16th & 17th of May. The event will have the same layout as 2008, with the Club making their way to Bigwood, Mullinavat, Co.Kilkenny for day one which will be run at a distance of 1.6 Km, Billy O’Keeffe driving his Mitsubishi EVO 6 set the fastest time on his first run last year stopping the clocks at 1.02.90 in dry conditions. The Bigwood hill will pose a good test to all competitors as the road is technical with two hairpin bends at the school section. The action then moves to Garryduff, Piltown, Co.Kilkenny for the second day’s action. Day two will see the single seater boys take over as the 1.6 Km of the Garryduff hill is all about speed. Twelve months ago it was James Doherty driving his glorious red Delta T85 that pulled out all the stops on his fourth and final run of the day to set the fastest time.

Regulations and entry forms for the event have been available for some time now and Club are delighted to welcome back a good contingent of drivers from across the water. Bob and Janet Zwarts will be back again to contest the sidecar class in their A.J.S, David Bovenizer will also be taking part in his A.J. Stevens machine. Chas Reynolds from Cheshire has entered in his splendid 1933 Morgan Super Sports and Ken Barker from Yorkshire will attend with his 1965 Velocette. Traveling from Co. Down we have Andy Johnson in his Alfa Romeo and accompanying Andy is Paul McCulla driving an Austin 7. Closer to home we have Brian McDonald from Kilkenny with his VTEC Honda Civic and Co. Waterford’s Jim Butler in his gleaming Renault 5 Turbo and The Fogarty family will be well represented as father and son team of Willie and Frank are back again. Frank will drive a Toyota and Willie will have the black Auto Bianchi on show. It was a fight between James Doherty (Delta T85) and Seamus Anderson (Mk11 Escort) for the first entry in the event.

Clerk of the Course Pat Sheil with Tony Cleary on hand and their team having been hard at work over the past months and are now putting the final touches to what looks like a great weekends motorsport action.

Prizegiving and dinner will take place in the Carraig Hotel, on Saturday at approx 7pm. Sunday prizegiving will take place weather permitting at the end of the hill.

The Bigwood hill will be closed to traffic on Saturday between 9.30am – 6pm and on Sunday on Garryduff Hill between 9.30am – 6.00pm. and Traffic Diversions will be in place.

The Carrick on Suir Motor Club would like to take this opportunity to thank the residents and landowners on both hills for their continued support.
