Martin Brady Wins Garda Sport Star Award.

  The Garda Coiste Siamsa 16th Annual Sportstar Awards, took place on Friday, 27th  November 2009, in Hotel Kilkenny, Kilkenny City.

  The Coiste Siamsa Sportstar Award is a celebration of sporting achievement in An Garda Síochána.  Each year it honours men and women in the force who have excelled in sport locally, nationally and internationally.  

Jimmy Magee of RTE was chairperson of the selection committee and was Master of Ceremonies on the night while the awards were presented by Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy. Awards are presented to members of the force who have achieved succes in various different codes of sport.

Garda Martin Brady is a native of Navan Co Meath and is stationed in the Dublin South Region. Martin was a recipient of the Garda Sports star award 2009 for his success in motorsport in the 2008 t0 2009 season. Martin competes in rallying as a navigator and in October 2008 Martin was crowned the champion navigator of the Mitsubishi Evo Challenge Championship in the U.K. & in July 2009 he secured another title giving him victory in the championship 2 years in a row.  This is a feat never previously achieved by any other competitor.  Also in July 2009 he was selected to become part of the U.S.A. National team to take part in the Rally of Nations which was held in Mexico.

On recieving the award Martin commented, "I'm very proud and honoured to receive this award, especially Im very pleased to see rallying recognised by such a prestigious award and a selection commitee of such sporting importance and knowledge. Its a fantastic award and thank you to the drivers whom I navigated for this year in helping me to this honour. "
