Nutts Corner Circuit (near Belfast) plays host to the second round of the 2009/10 Fuchs Lubricants Northern Ireland Rallycross Open Championship on Sunday November 22nd, which has already attracted an entry in excess of 60 cars.
Double Rallycross Open Champion ‘Mad Mark’ claimed the opening round of the Championship last month with his Citroen Xsara and is looking to make it two wins in succession. Declan Kelly (from Dublin driving a Ford Fiesta) and Kyle Orr (Ford Focus) will be aiming to spoil ‘Mad Marks’ party, which will keep them both within striking distance in the Championship title battle.
The Super National category provided plenty of thrills and spills last month with Barry McCardle (from Dundalk) taking victory with his Renault 5. Don Shannon (from Ballymoney driving a Volvo S40) will be aiming to record his first event win in the Northern Ireland Championship, but will face plenty of opposition from a packed entry including Sam Bovill (from Toomebridge driving a Vauxhall Corsa), Stanley Bovill (from Toomebridge driving a Vauxhall Astra), Dessie Tierney (from Cavan driving a Vauxhall Tigra), James McVicker (from Ballymena driving a Renault Clio) and Seamus Murphy (from Larne driving a Ford Escort).
Conor Mulholland (from Randalstown driving a Fiat Stilo) is aiming to make amends for a first corner incident with Derek Lenehan (from Dublin driving a Peugeot 106) last time out in the combined Procar 2000/Procar 1600 category. Local driver, Jackie Harris hopes to take his Citroen Saxo to the top step of the podium for the first time to keep his title bid on track.
David Bell joins in the action with his Super Mini, while Mark Francis (County Down) leads the Junior entry which will be hotly contested with over ten cars with entries from England, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
The RX150 category joins the Championship for the first time with Rallycross Open Champion, Andy Scott heading the entry list. The Auto Fashion Rally Car category has once again attracted an entry of 30 cars, with Drew Stewart (Antrim), Martin Teggart (Gilford) and James Kennedy (Antrim) resuming their battle in the 2 wheel drive rally car category with their Ford Escort MK2’s.
