After a long and exhaustive search, the missing Circuit of Ireland Rally Car has been returned to it rightful owner after 29 hours in the hands of thieves.

The Subaru Legacy, which had performed as an Official safety car during the Easter event was taken from its owner’s home on Sunday evening. Since then, the details of the vehicle were distributed via the internet to Motorsport and Car enthusiasts chat rooms and forums which resulted in some clues to the cars possible whereabouts.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, the owner was tipped off to the Subaru’s location and the car was retrieved virtually undamaged.

‘The car has been returned with just a small dent in one of the doors and the locks have been broken. Once the Police have done their tests on the car, I can check the engine and gearbox for any obvious damage and give the car a thorough check over’ said the owner.

‘I would like to thank the people I meet while I was searching for my car in Belfast over the last few days. While I don’t know any of their names, it’s heartening to know that the vast majority of those that I talked to are good honest people. A case like this also highlights the power of the Internet and the media, and it is amazing how quickly word got out about the theft.’
