After claiming the European Rally Championship crown in 2003, the Junior World Championship in 2005, the WRC title in 2006 and top honours in the IRC in 2008, Kronos Racing has its sights set on a fresh challenge in 2009. Indeed, in addition to its IRC programme, the team will prepare and run a Peugeot 207 S2000 for the complete Middle East Rally Championship in the hands of Saudi Arabia's Yazeed Al Rajhi and his French co-driver Matthieu Baumel.
"This is a totally new challenge for the team," points out Marc Van Dalen, joint director of Kronos Racing. "The FIA Middle East Championship features a remarkable variety of surface types, ranging from the extremely slippery asphalt of Lebanon to the slow, rocky tracks of Cyprus and, of course, desert territory which is more or less new to us. Our aim is to demonstrate how competitive the Peugeot 207 S2000 can be over terrain where it has rarely had the chance to show its ability before now."
Yazeed Al Rajhi only made his rally debut in 2007. However, having won two events in 2008, the Saudi Arabian youngster is targeting the title, and this is why he has chosen a Peugeot 207 S2000. The car will be specially prepared for him in Belgium by Kronos Racing and the 28-year old will form part of the team's official line-up in 2009
