It is with much regret that the Excel Rally Championship 2009 is being cancelled with immediate effect, but the series may regenerate again in the future. It is a decision that hasn’t come easy for championship manager, who has invested a lot of time, money and effort into this year’s series. “It is unfortunate we have no choice but to pull the pin on the 2009 series. I suppose these economically changing times haven’t helped matters, and maybe the series would have worked better in different years, but even with our offer of free registration we weren’t getting the numbers necessary to make the whole thing pan out. It was very much a big effort by Excel Rallying, and we are also under pressure with work commitments out foreign.”

Despite the lure of extensive On the Limit television coverage, and a relaxing of the control tyre rulings, letting crews use up their own stock of tyres first, only 5 drivers have contested enough events to even qualify for the end of season shoot-out that was to be held in November. “It’s not something we wanted to do, but we haven’t totally given up. Maybe in a better year and with a bit of re-thinking it could all work out properly in the future.”

For now the series has ended for 2009, but maybe by 2011, who knows what will happen?

Excel Rally Championship is back online for the 2009 season

Excel Rallying are delighted to announce that the Excel Rally Championship is back online for the 2009 season.

However, a few changes have been made to the regulations:

    · Entry to the Championship is now FREE,
    · All entrants must use a control tyre.
    · There is no control Fuel.
The Overall Class Winners go through to the Shootout;
the date of the Shootout has yet to be confirmed with Motorsport Ireland and will be posted on the Official Website, www.excelrallying.ie , as soon as it has been decided.

1st Prize - Super 1600 Drive for 4 rounds in 2010 Or Cash Prize of €6,000

2nd Prize - Super 1600 Drive for 2 rounds in 2010 Or Cash Prize of €3,000

3rd Prize - Super 1600 Drive for 1 round in 2010 Or Cash Prize of €1,500

4th Prize – Cash Prize of €1,000

5th Prize – Cash Prize of €1,000

6th Prize – Cash Prize of €1,000

7th Prize – Cash Prize of €1,000
