The third and fourth rounds of the Darby O’Gills Killarney Autocross Championship is set to take place on the 3rd and 4th of August in association with Sean Hickey Scaffolding, Guttering, Fascia & Soffit.
On Saturday racing is set to get underway at the later than usual time of 5 o’clock and on the Sunday it goes back to its regular time of 12 noon.
It is returning to Mike Cronin’s Pit, just off the Cork road and will be signposted on approach roads to Killarney.
There will two different tracks used over the weekend giving a needed change to the drivers and also making it very enjoyable for spectators to watch.
The Autocross is also a round of the Munster Autocross Championship which expects a good entry from all round Munster and beyond to put it up to our locals especially since it is a bank holiday weekend and should make for great day out for the family.
After round 2, Ger Lynch in a Toyota Starlet is leading Class 1 from Denis O’Brien in a Vauxhall Nova and Thomas Creedon in a Ford Ka.
Class 2 sees Jimmy Devane lead in a Nissan Sunny, with Brendan O’Mahony in a Peugeot 205 in second place followed by Conor Collins.
Coleman Hurley in Class 3 in his 2 litre Opel Astra has maximum points.
Class 4 also has only one registered entrant this year with Jerry Lehane in his Subaru Impreza taking all the points.
In Class 5 James Lucey leads in his Mazda ‘Special’ and is also leading the overall championship whilst Austin Shinnors is second place in the class.
In the junior category, Thomas Creedon in a Ford Ka is winning with Emma Looney in a Toyota Corolla in second place and Sean Fleming in a Vauxhall Nova is in third.
Emma Looney is also leading the Ladies class from Statia O’Sullivan.
All are welcome on Saturday and Sunday, whether to spectate, marshal or compete.

On the August bank holiday weekend the Killarney Motor Club are running a two day loose surface autocross. This autocross is replacing the grass event that was due to be run on the same dates.
The autocross is taking place in Mike Cronins Pit located just off the main Cork road and will be well signposted.
Both days are counting rounds of the Darby O'Gill Killarney and the Munster autocross championships.
Competitors entering for both days will benefit from a reduced entry fee.
On Saturday,
scrutiny begins at 3.00pm, drivers briefing at 4.15pm, practice at 4.30pm and first timed run at 5.00pm SHARP
On Sunday,
scrutiny begins at 10.00am, drivers briefing at 11.15am, practice at 11.30 and first timed run at 12.00noon SHARP
A good entry is needed as there will be a lot of hard work put in to ensuring that there will be two good tracks in place & it would be great to see the organisers rewarded for their effort.
This is a great opportunity to do some final testing before the Cork forestry rally.
Regs and entry forms available shortly.
