Over the 3 rounds of the competition Sean demonstrated to the judges
his excellent overall ability in each of the areas where the judges
were assessing the scholarship entrants. Many of the entrants had
previous competition experience yet the judges were looking for a
candidate who showed an overall competency in many areas. Candidates
were assessed firstly on their driving ability but then on more
technical skills such as their ability to learn and adapt to new
driving styles and techniques. Then other areas were examined such as
media skills and vehicle and mechanical awareness. Throughout each
round of the competition Sean displayed an excellent general ability
and driving talent but crucially he always displayed a willingness to
learn and improve on every effort. The standard of entrants across the
competition was encouragingly high and this made it all the more
difficult for the judges to select a winner, ultimately Sean proved to
be the most worthy and impressive candidate when all factors were
taken into consideration and he was duly awarded the 2007 Rally Idol
Scholarship Prize.
This prize consists of the Rally Idol scholarship Honda Civic which
has had many excellent results in the hands of Andrew Purcell. It is
now the turn of Sean to take this car onto the rally stages and
demonstrate his skills behind the wheel. Sean will also benefit from
the prize fund which will cover the costs of his intended 2007 rally
programme. The first event in which he intends to use the prize fund
on will be the second round of the Hankook Forestry Championship in
Mitchellstown. After this event is completed then a decision will be
made on the next rally.
XLR8 Motorsport would like to thank each and every entrant in the
competition and wish them the very best of luck in any future
rallying.
