Event cancelled due to a lack of entries.
It is with regret that the organisers of the Denbighshire Astra Stages Rally must announce that the 2007 event has been cancelled due to a lack of entries.

An expected increase in entries following the recent Robin Hood Stages Rally has not been forthcoming and the event was well short of what it required in entry levels just to break even.

2007 was scheduled to be the 25th anniversary of the Llangollen based event. Recent work by the Forestry Commission in North Wales had left the roads of Clocaenog in superb condition, but unfortunately the Vauxhall Motoring Club of Wirral have been forced to cancel on economic grounds.

The event was set to be part of the British Historic Rally Championship, Pine Lodge Maps MSA Welsh National Rally Championship and also the Welsh Clubmans Forestry Championship amongst others.

All competitors who have entered the event have been written to by the organising team who are bitterly disappointed at not being able to celebrate a quarter of a century of clubman friendly motorsport.

“All aboard for the Astra!”
Denbighshire will play host to an eclectic mix of rally cars old and new on April 7th. The premier Motorsport event in North Wales, the Denbighshire Astra Stages Rally will once again be based at the Royal International Pavilion in the town.

Qualifying for the Dunlop/Gambia British Historic Rally Championships and the Pine Lodge MSA Welsh Rally Championship, the ever popular event uses forest stages in the Clocaenog and Aberhirnant forests, offering rally competitors the ultimate challenge on the fast and often slippery gravel roads.

Following on from recent years, the event will split over the course of the day to offer three separate rallies running under the overall umbrella of the Denbighshire Astra Stages Rally. The Denbighshire Astra Stages National Rally will be the longest of the day, covering approximately 55 miles of forest stages. The Denbighshire Historic Astra Stages Rally covers an identical route and looks set to boast a truly international field of competitors.

The cream of the British Historic rallying scene will arrive in North Wales in numbers to contest the rally. Make no mistake; this is not a collection of old cars cruising slowly around the stages. Historic rallying is one of the fastest growth areas within motorsport, with more and more competitors making the switch to the iconic cars of the 60's and 70's, such as the Mk 1 Escorts and the classic Porsche 911's. One of the more interesting entries already received is that of the American based Irishman Frank Cunningham. The Galway man left Ireland to set up his business in Boston in the US of A, but now returns regularly to compete in the UK and Ireland. Frank will be contesting the event in a Ford Escort RS2000.

The third and final event running will be the Denbighshire Astra Stages Clubman Rally, where the local heroes will be plying their trade on the shortest route of the three, comprising of approximately 45 stage miles.

Delighted to be supported by Denbighshire Council again, Event Clerk of the Course Andy Kay was looking forward to another highly successful Astra Stages:
"Both the MSA British Historic Championship and the Pine Lodge MSA Welsh National Championship are major players in British rallying. Historic’s in particular are going from strength to strength and the championship has always been a welcome part of our event. We're delighted to continue that tradition and the level of competition within the series is as hard fought as any championship anywhere. The National and Clubmen competitors will also play a key part in putting on a great show for the spectators on some of the best loved forest stages in Wales. Competitors always enjoy the challenges posed by the Clocaenog and Aberhirnant forests, and once again we are posing a fast, exciting and challenging route for the competitors.

As organisers, we remain committed to offering the absolute best value that we can give to competitors whatever type of rally they want to contest. Be it the full National or the Clubman event, we've tried to set the entry fee at a very competitive level in order to attract competitors. We look forward to seeing competitors and friends old and new in Llangollen on April 7th."

Competitors, spectators and prospective marshals keen to find out more information on the rally are just a click away from the information they need. Head to www.astrastages.co.uk for the very latest event news, competitor bulletins and entry forms.
